Just bought a WD MyCloud, can I transfer my music library?

Hi there. I recently bought a WD MyCloud so I could have my music library always online without the need of having my computer on.

I already had edited metadata of tons of albums and artists, and I also have a lot of playlists.

My first action was to copy my whole library (about 1tb) to the WD drive. But when I tried to configure Plex, it points me towards creating a new server, which its like starting from scratch all over again.

Question 1: Can I implement my cloud drive into my existing server while keeping metadata and playlists?

Question 2: If I have to start a new server for the cloud drive, can I at least copy my metadata and playlists to it?

Thanks in advance.

Your metadata and playlists are kept in a Plex database. https://support.plex.tv/articles/202915258-where-is-the-plex-media-server-data-directory-located/ will show you where your Plex Media Server folder is. The database will be in “plug-in support \ databases”. Copy the database from your old computer to the MyCloud. This will get your data over but they won’t play. The database also tracks the location of your media files and the path on your MyCloud will be different than from the old server.

You can try the steps in https://support.plex.tv/articles/201154537-move-media-content-to-a-new-location/ as if you were moving your media files, skipping the copying part since you’ve already done that.

Thanks for the info. Will try those later.

I know it’s been a while. I tried a few times to make this work, but the thing is that I’ve been not able to access the data on My Cloud Home.

Could you point me to how I access the path: /mnt/HD/HD_a2/plex_conf/Plex Media Server/ from the link you’ve sent me?

I read some stuff about configuring my device to enable NFS, but also read that this feature isn’t present on My Cloud Home.

My both libraries (locan and mycloud) are identical, the only difference is the root folder (one is my local HD and the other the cloud one). I have spent a lot of time fixing metadata on my local one, just wish that I could copy it over to the cloud.

Thanks again!

Here’s how I would do it:

  1. Copy the library folder to any network share on your NAS.
  2. Enable SSH on your MyCloud (here’s a how to).
  3. Log into your MyCloud using SSH and something like Putty.
  4. Move the library from the network share to the PMS folder.

Let me know if this helps.

I’m starting to think that this unit is giving me more problems than solutions. Just checked this:

Apparently the My Cloud Home does not have this feature also.
