Just release the old app as a legacy version and continue developing the new app

The new app is a an absolute mess. Nonstop bugs, missing features, terrible UI, slow and clunky. Please stop plowing ahead with this mistake and just release the legacy Plex app which maybe looked old but had all the features and worked. This new app is not ready to be used. It feels like an alpha release. We just want to be able to watch our own media in peace without dealing with this nonsense

I honestly thought that the “New app” was going to be an entirely separate entry, and the old app was going to stay. Probably not good to fragment your userbase like that, but I’d highly recommend Plex do so, if there is such an overhaul and it is STILL IN PROGRESS with a lot of features.

Hard to disagree with the OP, I have resisted upgrading and I have old setup’s going back to early days so I may install in a sandbox and make sure it never upgrades.

I am currently looking at two other options:

  1. Buy a Lifetime pass with a gun to my head over allowing family to view my server

  2. Bite the bullet and install Jellyfin

The Trustpilot reviews are truly awful, the listing has not been claimed by Plex and there are no replies of course.

I have seen this rush of unneeded development occur in other organisations, I used to be a paying customer for LastPass but it has been ruined and price increased by 300%. Sadly

I would suggest that Plex release the old version and call it Plex Lite, it should have the same features that is always had and just work.

I blocked all my iOS devices updates just to avoid the new “experience” (experience, that is… but not good) after my iPad is now useless (no more access to my photos, no way to have the video libraries to remember their state (I need “browse”, not “recommended”).
Please, upload the old version as alternative. I need Plex to watch my videos, not to rent stuff.

I normally don’t post reviews but I’m a longtime lifetime member. The new IOS plex app is terrible. No access to server settings or to have the ability to scan libraries etc. Come on guys, don’t remove usable functionality from your app. I don’t mind if things get moved around but to remove server admin functionality is a terrible idea. Not sure who’s running the ship these days but it seems it’s going in the wrong direction. I gave you guys 2 stars in the App Store for the first time ever.

That’s possible in the latest update.

Can only speak for the Android version but I don’t remember the last app having a huge amount of access to server settings. Although it could just be that I use the web interface wherever I need to make changes.

That can be done in the new app now.

I can’t do it in my iPad. I’ve the last version (17.7.5) and they still reset when I switch from a library to another one. And I can’t find any option in the settings (like “remember status” as it was in the previous “experience”).

Maybe the Android version is more advanced, I’ve no idea. For sure they should have kept it in “developer” mode until it was really ready to take the place of the old, better one.

For those of use who also got jammed by Sonos’ terrible management and horrible app roll out a year ago (Sonos is struggling and the stock price is at a record low this week), we have a clue as to why Plex decided to overwrite the WORKING app, with this HOT MESS!
Because by slip-streaming this garbage into the app stores, they can maintain their once good rating by the huge volume of past good reviews. Just look at the last 14 days of RECENT reviews that are almost all 1-stars, but the average higher score is maintained.
Exactly what Sonos did and it’s pure deception.

The other reason is that by forcing this update, consumers (who don’t lock down auto-updates) have NO choice but to deal with this awful new app.
That way Plex can do as Sonos did and USE THEIR USER BASE as FREE BETA TESTERS!

Yup, you give them money, then they use your time and efforts to test their Alpha app, while they change their Ts&Cs so they can harvest and sell our data.
Customers?? Heck NO, we’re now the PRODUCT and free testers!!

I’m sick of this abuse so we and our friends/family have canceled our auto renewal for the annual Plex Pass.

Some jerks in the c-suite NEVER LEARN!

Apple shouldn’t even allow such a significant change to be published to the App Store and use the same ratings.

Double check that version. The new app versions all begin with 2025 (though during the preview phase there were versions starting with 2024). You can find the actual version under Settings → About.

At any rate, the new setting which allows you to select the default library view is located under Settings → Experience → Default Library View. It was added in version 2025.13.0. The options are “Browse” or “Recommended.” Browse is the default.

If you’re not in the iOS TestFlight (beta) group, you’ll still be on version 2025.12.0 and will not see the option, yet.

I want my old app back,******** plex developer

Watch the feed, bring the old app back, new app is total â– â– â– â–

Before the old app back, I’m gonna install jellyfin instead
