I have many movies but all are either three or four star movies. Now, I find numerical ratings more informational but I agree that stars look better. If they were remapped so that there were nearly equal numbers of each star then I would be able to tell the difference between a great movie and an average movie.
For example,
0 to 4 -----> 1 star ----- (Theoretical gun to head --- BANG!)
4 to 6 -----> 2 stars ----- (Better than doing laundry)
6 to 7.5 -----> 3 stars ----- (Enjoyable)
7.5 to 8.5 -----> 4 stars ----- (That was great)
8.5 to 10 -----> 5 stars ----- (Check your pulse!)
The 5 star range is larger than expected but only includes 50 movies on IMDB according to their Top 250 list. The ranges would ultimately be up to you fine folks and it might vary slightly between metadata agents.
I think this would be a great compromise to those wanting the better ranking that the numerical ratings provide. If I had 2, 3, 4 and 5 star ratings for my movies (I probably wouldn't keep a 1-star movie), I would be very happy. That's really twice the information I had previously.
What are your thoughts? Wouldn't this be easier than trying to edit the UI?
