Keep content in the Watchlist after viewing it

Currently, once a movie or series has been entered into the watchlist, and viewing said content, it is automatically removed from the watchlist, having to reinsert it manually if you want to have it on your watchlist. Every time.

Considering that if you want to remove it from the list after viewing it, you would only have to remove it from the watchlist once, while if you want to keep it currently you have to insert it every time you view it, why not make the change?

That way, people who want to remove it from their list after watching it can do so by pressing a button just once, while people who want to have certain content separated and easily accessible (Who doesn’t have x favorite movies or series that they constantly watch? ) you don’t have to worry about reinserting it over and over again. Also, if you have a large library, it can be a hassle looking for the movie that you forgot to put back in the watchlist.

That is a use case for which the Watchlist is not designed. It is for items which you want to watch some time, but fear you could forget about them.

Why don’t you use something else to mark your favorites?
Adding the show to a “favorites” collection or marking it with a high “star rating” come to mind.

Because the watchlist is more accessible, being a single clearly visible button that defines if it is added or not. Otherwise, why have a watchlist when you could play the content for a few minutes and have it saved in “continue watching”?

My change conveys the same behavior, but with the added advantage of not having to constantly re-add content after viewing it. Taking into account that the watchlist can now be filtered, it could even be separated by “viewed” and not.

It is to group multiple functions to a single list that is easy to access and add content. My mother would have no idea how to add her movies and series to a playlist, while the clearly visible “watchlist” button is easy for her, but frustrating that her movie disappears after watching it.

It’s like the change that was made in “continue watching”, which was decided that it was more feasible for an awake person to press the continue watching button, than for a sleeping person to do so. In this case, it is more likely that a person who wants to remove content from their list will do so, than that a person who wants to have it on their list will have to re-add it.

Hi,

In the current Plex Web App (as of May 2025), I seem to be unable to discover movies which I have added to the Watchlist but marked as “Watched”. I can’t find any filter option allowing me to filter by “Watched” or “Unwatched”.

The “watched” status still works (items disappear from the list when marked as watched), but there doesn’t seem to be a way to view those watched items - as a result, I also can’t reset the status of an item back to “unwatched”.

Am I missing something? I can’t imagine that I’m the only one missing this feature.

Thanks!
