Killing PMP

another bad decision by plex (seems like there is more and more of these lately. bad ui decisions, forcing plex news and podcast on us, and discontinuing plugins) I am going to have to find something else other than plex. I don’t even like the fourms software. About the only thing i have liked lately is plexamp

Year and a half since update, ouch.

Indeed, but it still works (for now). If they commit to keeping the addon updated with API changes and whatnot, that provides a relatively easy way to continue crossplatform 10 foot UI support without needing to build separate MacOS and Windows programs.

Yeah, maybe a fork out there?

exactly… this is INSANE… and ridiculous…

just tried the new player out on my surface… and the text is so small you can’t even see to click on anything : (

Not cool. Lifetime pass user, avid HTPC user. I use Plex Media Player for all serious movie watching. I strongly disagree with this move.

There was a post from Plex a while ago saying nope to continue supporting that add on.

there was fork but not sure if it’s still being developed.

Source?

Womp, womp.

:disappointed:

Please post this as an issue in its own thread, thanks!

So this new app wont work on windows?

i already did before i saw this thread : ) : (

It works fine, it just doesn’t offer a 10-foot UI working with a remote control, etc.

ok, it does say not active development…

It doesn’t necessarily need to be under active development, it just needs to be maintained so it continues to work. That would be enough for me.

That said, Plex obviously has monetization plans outside of selling Plex Pass, so if it doesn’t support integration with Tidal and whatnot, they may well consider supporting the Kodi addon an anti-feature.

will have to see… but the master branch in the repo has had no commits since May last year

I guess I don’t really care if PMP isn’t updated as long as the existing one keeps working? That or switch to emby maybe…

I am reminded of my favorite episode of Red Vs. Blue when the Blue team receives a tank, but realizes they have no one trained on the team to operate it…

“HOLY CRAP! WHO IS RUNNING THIS ARMY?!?!”

Just throwing in a “vote” here, in case it will matter somehow.

I am very much a Plex fan, a very heavy user and I’m using all sorts of clients, Android, Chromecast, the web player, and this hits me right in the gut too. Plex is my complete solution to all things media and right now my living room setup just crumbled to dust. Not even sure how to solve this.

If it isn’t updated it will eventually stop working. Doesn’t need active development for new features and whatnot, but it does need to be in maintenance mode or it will just unexpectedly die one day.
