Killing PMP

Oddly enough, I just came across a use case for PMP in TV mode. I have a PC I’m taking down to the lake cabin, and just switched to Verizon (the only carrier that works at the lake), which will give me enough hotspot data to make use of it.

Yes, I could get a Roku, but the PC also houses Kodi, which will be used offline to run files from a local hard drive. (What I’d previously been doing until I got the huge Unlimited data plan)

So, add one new user that will be using PMP in TV mode because I need something that will run a remote friendly app on a PC.

And hi def audio passthrough

@elan You deserve praise for changing your plans for HTPC users, so :clap::clap:.

Now, how about showing some love to those who have already followed your desired path and purchased a Roku? I’ll keep asking you: how much would we have to raise to get Plex to post the source code for RetroPlex to github?

Don’t worry about Roku’ s actions. I will tackle that problem separately. How much are we talking?

great news… unbelievable news : )
so glad the best player out there hands down… won’t be going away : )

it’s such a relief.

Embedded PMP already does this.

Where can I download the pmp version of Plex? It seems to be removed from the website ?

You can get it here: Plex Media Player download info

thank you for listening… i was pissed lol

I’m glad someone corrected you on your spelling of “family’s”.

Very, very happy about this. This is the only version of Plex I use on multiple high end systems in my household. Many thanks to the team for changing their minds. I will happily continue to support Plex financially for being very worth it.

Why does everyone say “add hi Def audio passthrough”? Does the Plex Media Player not pass HD audio via the HDMI cable from an HTPC to a receiver/TV?

Because not all of us have £189 to spend for each player we want to run. I have been using Raspberry Pi 2’s for all my TV’s, I recently purchased Raspberry Pi 4’s and have sadly been disappointed in not being able go get PMP running on them. I was really hoping to start watching 4k content without spending the massive amount on Shields.

Thank you so much, You really made my day.

On a pi 4, you can use libreelec with the official Plex for Kodi add-on, or with the third party (but well maintained) PlexKodiConnect add-on. Just be aware that not all hardware capabilities of the pi4 are supported yet, but they will be eventually.

PMP does, and that’s why everyone was upset over PMP/HTPCs no longer being supported. The new desktop app does not support passthrough audio and any questions about such features beneficial to HTPC users were met with “the new app is not for the HTPC platform, go buy a SHIELD if you want to stream on a TV”

But that has, thankfully, been corrected with Elan’s last post in this thread.

This is great news! I was already looking to other options for playing video on my Rasperry Pi (which I specificly bought for Plex Media Player…). Other streaming solutions didn’t really do it for me.

Great news!

Having just downloaded the new PMP for windows and realized there wasn’t a TV view anymore, I am extremely disappointed. I am glad to see that this feature will continue to be supported but is there a link to a previous version that I can use for the time being? I use this for watching tv and streaming movies from my plex server. HD audio passthrough is a must for me.
