I am posting here to share some wisdom about the “LAN Networks” setting in Plex Media server. What happened is that I recently changed my internet service provider and I had inadvertently entered an IP address in the “LAN Networks” field that was not the same as anything on my local subnet. As a result, the quality of streaming from Plex Media Server dramatically reduced. The reason is that even though the Media Server was on the same subnet as all my other home devices, Plex interpreted these as being outside my local network and downgraded the streaming quality and bandwidth accordingly. By simply clearing this field and click the “Save Changes” field, the server’s subnet is now considered to be on the local network and performance improved dramatically enabling streaming of HD videos on all my home devices.
