this has been driving me crazy and i have googled and trawled these forums but maybe I’m not good at searching because I can’t find the answer.
I have PLEX app on my XBONE and am set up on a hardwired LAN with PLEX server on my Netgear ReadyNAS 104.
I have 2 exact same files in .mkv container with following codec info the same in both. one streams no problems, the other keeps returning “server not powerful enough to convert”. i have all conversions turned off and direct play is all ticked. I have found that this is occurring across my library. some work some don’t for no apparent reason because lately all my stuff is in .mkv containers but they are random in what works and what doesn’t.
@kir3vam Hi there. We’d need some server logs with debugging enabled in the app to know for sure what’s happening. How exactly similar are the files? Same number of streams? same codecs? subtitles? bitrate? bit depth? There’s a lot of factors that could cause one file to be direct playable and another not.
Go into the app settings -> advanced -> enable server logging. Then try playing back the problematic file in the app. Then in Plex Web go to settings -> Server -> Help and then click the Download Logs button and PM me the files.

@kir3vam Thanks for the logs, exactly what I needed. The reason you cannot direct play that item is because you have subtitles enabled. Currently subtitles need to be always burned in on the Xbox One app, which requires transcoding. Soft subtitle support is something we have planned and is coming later.
