Large server upgrade strategy

Hi all, im planning on giving my server setup an over due upgrade current set up is:

Windows 10
Intel i7 960
12gb ram
geforce gt 430

Since I want to do 4k HDR Transcoding, and run other applications too. I was thinking of changing my setup to have 2 servers, 1 front end box which will do tasks and run plex, then a secondary file server using freenas. I was also thinking of changing the OS too to Linux.

Reading the support articles, I found this:

  • 4K HDR (50Mbps, 10-bit HEVC) file: 17000 PassMark score (being transcoded to 10Mbps 1080p)
  • 4K SDR (40Mbps, 8-bit HEVC) file: 12000 PassMark score (being transcoded to 10Mbps 1080p)
  • 1080p (10Mbps, H.264) file: 2000 PassMark score
  • 720p (4Mbps, H.264) file: 1500 PassMark score

So I was thinking something around 18000 on CPU benchmark, the other thing i was thinking was decent chassis for storing HDD’s, can anyone make recommendations, im in the UK.

What you guys think? Just looking for some suggestions and ideas on this.
