Latest PMS crashes every few minutes

Hey,

the new beta version crashes my server every few minutes, player independent. It’s there for a few minutes and then it doesn’t, not even locally. Otherwise everything is fine, Plex status is OK, Player is working and my internet connection is good. And it only happened since the new beta I would assume that it’s because of that…Does anyone else have the same problem?

Here are my logs:

operating system: Linux x86_64 14.04.1-Ubuntu

PMS Version: 1.13.8.5388

thx

After the restart there would be crash uploader logs as well. Please could you have a look at the logs folder and copy out and zip the copy and attach. Do not zip Logs in-situ

At the time of the crash we were attempting to transcode for sync for this media file E17 - ...und keiner lacht zur Weihnachtsnacht!

Could you tell me what the file is and if there is is an external subtitles file

OK, sync hasn’t worked for me for a while now. Certainly since a few months, always the newest beta. It loads podcasts but no more movies/series. I tried to delete it and sync it again, but it is always pending and the conversion remains empty…
sync may have something to do with it. The crashes came however only since now. Sync has not been working properly for quite some time, as I said.

mp4 and yes one external srt file

i was hoping you would give me all the logs and not being selective. More examples of the server log when crashing would give clues for the circumstances and sequence before crashing

Could you upload the media files into a private area and send me a link by Private Message - will try and see it it can be reproduced and also info on what language options you have set / selected

Thanks

I’m sorry,

my mistake. I didn’t want to be selective, thought you just needed these. This time all logs…

pm message sent

I downloaded the file myself and played it via vlc. Everything seems to be OK, even with external subtitle file.

In addition I set it to public and here everything runs without problems.

Thank you - i will have a look. Could you tell me the transcoder settings you have eg if restricted number of transcodes

Interesting, I just deleted the series with the above file from sync (via browser) and then the server apparently crashed.

Thanks

Please copy out the Preferences.xml file and zip and send it to me by Private Message please

What is the system that Plex Media Server is running on? Is it a desktop ?

and have you migrated the preferences from another system?

I seem to be having similar issues. Everything has been working well for a while but since this update, Plex is having big issues, beyond stressing me out! Suddenly struggling to watch some shows after a short amount of time. Now Plex is “indirect” and cant be found on some devices. What annoys me more than anything is not having somewhere to go to find help. Had I known Plex offer no support at all and I’d have to rely on google searches and forums I never would have started using them!! And its not even like being a paying member helps. I’m not a fan of the new update either, not as tidy.

remote server (bytesized-hosting)
Linux x86_64 14.04.1-Ubuntu
Intel Xeon E31240
16GB

No ,not migrated

I think I found the cause. A user at Reddit advised me to turn off the HW support and see what happens. Since I turned it off and started using the beta again, everything is going through…
Additionally he said that this error occurs often and I could fix it by deleting the codec folder. Is this safe under Linux (don’t have root rights) or if so where do I find them and how do I proceed?

Thanks

ERROR - [FFMPEG] - Cannot load libcuda.so.1

Thanks for the extra info about Hardware Acceleration.

Changes are being made to the Plex Media Server code to avoid crashing

This is the codecs directory for your server for v1.13.8.5388-509720743
/config/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Codecs/e7828f1-1324-linux-ubuntu-x86_64/

You could try renaming that directory or moving it out of that path and then restart Plex Media Server and try to have media synced as before and then collect the logs say 20 minutes later through the Download Logs troubleshooting interface on Plex Web

Do you get a dedicated WAN IP address for your bytesized-hosting PMS ? Download of codecs is rate limited and it is done on IP

Also when you get the logs, get me a list directory of
/config/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Codecs/e7828f1-1324-linux-ubuntu-x86_64/
showing all files and sizes and permissions and ownership and date /times

Hmm,

I think I was happy too soon. It happens again, although the hw support is off.
There was no codec folder at all but only a hardlink, but I pulled it out and looked what happened (see screenshot). ttopxelp is my username

I think you need to discuss that with bytesized-hosting

The e944d3a-13220linux-ubuntu-x86_64 directory is not for version

Any files in this directory?
On launch on 1.13.8.5388 it should try to download the files for this version - if there has been a change
Also on first use of the media files eg for playback with transcoding or sync, it would fetch the codecs and the logs would show if there are any errors

Thanks for the logs

They show that you are also crashing on v1.13.5.5332-21ab172de
So not a 1.13.8 specific issue

Also the logs show that the directory showing in your screenshot is the 1.13.5.5332 codecs directory
/config/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Codecs/e944d3a-1322-linux-ubuntu-x86_64

The logs also show that you were running on this older version 1.13.5.5332 from Sep 20, 2018 19:54:06 up to time logs captured at Sep 20, 2018 20:47:1234:

Logs also show successful download of codecs for 1.13.5.5332 at 20:04:19 into the 1.13.5 directory /config/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Codecs/e944d3a-1322-linux-ubuntu-x86_64

I do not have any logs for 1.13.8 downloading codecs
