Let's finally solve the low audio issue please

Original Post:

Let’s be for real here and address the problem once and for all. We all know that the volume on Plex is incredibly low compared to all other (devices, apps) and there are no settings to fix this issue.

You can set the boost to huge (lol does nothing) you can set Force multi-channel audio to also do nothing…and that’s it. Sorry not sorry.

So why not finally give us the setting to boost the audio globally? It has been a years and years and years and the app just keeps getting more bloated with other features and more slow because of those features and this problem never gets fixed.

While driving down the road listening to podcasts, I have to max out my car stereo and phone and god forbid I forget to mute my phone because if I get a text it’s like this:

I’ve gone through three or four phones and two cars waiting for this to be fixed over the years. I think I’m on my third or fourth yearly subscription and hoping this finally becomes an option.

Bump.

Bump. It’s amazing how limited audio options are, Im sure there a quality issues, but this isnt for people watching a movie at a TV with no other sound, its for someone watching a show while sitting in discord or on youtube where the volume is 10% there, and 100% on plex.

You can solve it by turning down those volumes in the windows sound mixer, but no everyone knows to go there.

Even at 100% it’s at 1/4th the volume it should be. Turning my phone on vibrate keeps the other sounds from being like a nuclear blast when I get a text or something.

I also have a Roku Stick, Fire Stick, Smart TVs, and they are all so low that I have to max out my equipment to even get close to a listenable level and would easily want 75% more.

If I am on PC I use Media Player Classic since it never has sound volume issues.

I am having this exact same issue and can’t find anything about it. I will see that films ripped from Bluray seem to be worse than TV shows that I have in my library. Its annoying. I have to max out my TV to even watch them.

Bump. This has been a major issue. For a while I resorted to actually increasing the volume of the file itself, but that is super tedious and sometimes results in bad or corrupted audio…

Yeeessss!! Exactly!

After the latest updates I have noticed this on the Roku Ultra client. Have to crank up to volume very high to get normally audible sound. When switching to Netflix then it’s extremely loud (being Nextflix audio intensity normal) and then have to turn it down.

Seriously, Plex sucks big-time due to this huge drawback. Whats the use of having a media server if I cannot hear what is playing! Lucky, that I did not pay for the Plex pass and saved myself from more trouble.

I didn’t know this was a major issue. But I agree Plex should have a global audio normalization feature, not just for “multichannel downsampling.”

I think there’s loudness analysis in new Plex music library, and it’s done a pretty good job normalizing volume.

Getting this fixed would be amazing. It’s my biggest complaint we have.

Plex Developers, you have made a great media server and as a proud paying Lifetime customer, I commend you.

With this being said, this volume issue has been around for literally years and I am hopeful that you can correct this issue. ALL, and I literally mean all, other players (Netflix, Amazon Prime, AppleTV, Hulu, and countless others) seem to have much more robust audio capability and do not have a volume issue. Whether playing videos on my AppleTV, XBOX One, XBOX 360 (old), SmartTV (LG, Insignis, Samsung, Panasonic), or Windows PC, this sound issue presents itself.

I have been looking for a solution literally for years and have found nothing but these forums with numerous requests for a resolution with many trying to help without any real solutions.

I challenge you, how will you solve this problem and what is the timeframe for the solution. I sincerely hope that you read this and understand how much we love our Plex Server yet how much we suffer from these volume issues.

Please advise.

Bump, ridiculous this is still a problem

Are there any developers active on this forum, or are we just pissing into the wind? I too would LOVE to see this issue resolved.

Can someone acknowledge this issue?

Same here, just upgraded my audio system and Plex is turning out to be a disappointment in the audio department, the mrs just turns the amp off and listens through the tv due to dialogue being whisper quiet.

I agree with this. The only way I can hear Plex properly on my Kindle Fire is by installing one of those “speaker booster” apps. But then it is too loud when watching youtube or other apps, so I have to constantly open the speaker booster app and adjust the volume in there. Very frustrating.

This link fixed it for me. Is there a fix for the extremely low volume on roku?

Keep this thread going! Settings->Plex Web->Player-> Audio Boost used to help a little bit, but that option is not listed any more .

Now there is just “normalize multi-channel audio”, which does nothing and seems to be more about volume reduction, not increase.

Fix this ■■■■ pleeeeeeaseee
