I have been using the Plex app on my LG Oled for quite a while and it has been working perfectly. Recently I tried playing an MKV 4K HDR file. Unfortunately, as soon as I try to play it with subtitles, it starts to transcode the file. I’ve tried to set all settings to original stream, but to no avail.
However, when I disable the SRT or PGS subtitles the file works fine.
Then I tried the same file on my Android client where it works fine with subtitles (both PGS and SRT). Therefore I would say the problem is specifically in the LG WebOS client.
I have found a few related posts from a long time ago. I have the impression that this issue still isn’t solved.
