What it means if you have numerous Music Libraries they will be in alphabetic order for example.
Unfortunately for yourself you don’t like that, I and many others believe it’s the best outcome

There was this answer from one of the ninjas
It may be best for some, but not others, which is why it would be nice if there was an option to sort by type or alphabetically. (Surely that would not be that hard to implement)
I my case I have Documentaries and Stand up Comedy in both a TV Library and Movies Library and would like them grouped together.
(But as I said in my feature request I am probably an edge case
)
I believe you be best served by using Collections in TV Programs and Movies. Title them Documentaries of what ever sort.
Plex are moving towards a Library system that Collections of this type will be a lot easier.
Make your own posters
https://www.canva.com/posters/templates/movie/
We will have to wait and see what happens in the future,
But with Multiple servers (Some just as backups with the same Libraries) using Collections seems like a lot more work than just adding files to a folder…
And what I have at the moment suits my needs. just the ordering change is a bit annoying.
I was off the same opinion till I looked at a Friends server.
For Example: He had Western Movie Grouped. Lets say Spaghetti Westerns and Westerns.
It really looked great and the Posters available now.
The most annoying thing is that they take something that has been the same way for years and working fine and then change it with little to no notice unless you just spend your life on the forums.
At a minimum if they are going to do something like this they should at least give you the option to change it back to the way it was by going into the Settings and having a “Sort By…” dropdown or something. Ideally if they are going to change it, they should leave it as is for existing installs and add the setting so people can change it to the new sorting format if they want. If they want to make that the default on new server installs going forward that’s fine (as long as you can change it back on those as well with a setting).
Doing stuff like this it what keeps pissing off customers.
This was even more exacerbated because they had this stupid bug and so the in-between stage was just chaotically sorted, which confused people even more. And then when it was “fixed” it was different than from before the bug.
Also, I don’t see how Collections solves this at all. They are useful, but not as replacements for entire libraries. Also having to manually go find and/or make posters for them goes against the spirit of the self-contained nature of Plex and having it grab metadata for you, in my opinion.
and having seperate libraries makes it easier for sharing
(and making sure inapproprate content is not accidentally shared
)
Ok, understand many are not open to change
What? Are you trying to turn this back on us because we are “not open to change”? LOL
So you laughing now, glad your happy
I have no problem with change per se…
It is just that this one does not fit very well with my use case, and in my mind could be easily solved with a switch in PMS to order Libraries by type or alphabetically.
Good luck with that setting becoming reality
haha, yep I am under no illusions that there is pretty much zero chance of it actually happening. But you can but try…
to my surprise I just saw this ![]()
