Library scans always regenerating video chapter thumbnails of new items added since 8502 beta

I’m running server version 1.40.3.8502 beta on macOS 14.5

Each time I launch a library scan, it will try to regenerate the video chapter thumbnails of every item added since the update to 8502. The old items seem unaffected.

I saw in the release notes for the beta that some work was done around analysis, could it be related?

Since updating to this build, I am also experiencing strange and slow behavior.

I have my libraries set to create preview thumbnails as well as chapter thumbnails, and I have had nearly constant thumbnail generation on all? files in my various libraries.

I’m happy that this maintenance is being done, but I’m also questioning whether or not this re-processing videos, or catching up with a backlog of videos without thumbnails generated?

Also, scheduled scans are very slow and taking longer than scans in previous PMS builds.

Here is a ling to my logs: Plex Media Server Logs_2024-05-30_11-28-09

PMS Version 1.40.3.8502

Hi, writing to confirm I see similar behaviour since updating to this build.

I use the Amd64 Deb Linux version, and immediately after updating PMS I noticed a huge spike in CPU usage due to tasks such as Chapter Thumbnail generation, Intro Detection and Credits Detection.

Same here. Running 1.40.3.8502 on TrueNAS/FreeBSD, and having random Thumbnail creation ever since having upgraded to this version.

Only noticed it on movies, not on TV shows, but can’t tell for sure. It’s scanning old items that have been added for a while. I also have Thumbnail and preview creation enabled.

Just wondering if this is intended maintenance or if it’s a bug.

I thought I was the onlye one…
I tried Plex Dance and I also added GenerateBIFKeyframesOnly=“0” to the Preferences.xml, but both didnt help

It is quite likely that the fix for this issue Library Scans are Taking Multiple Times Longer with build 1.40.3.8502
will also fix the above.
It is currently in the release pipeline, so it might be in the next beta ( or the one after that release).

Cheers. Was about to ask/suggest if this might solve it, you already did  So far so good, no more random scans.
