Question: is the Live TV and DVR going to be released for WebOS / Netcast anytime soon? I’ve seen that on Android TV, and Amazon Fire TV things are moving quite fast, but no news on WebOS / Netcast or even Samsung (I am sure there are plenty of Samsung Smart TV users).
Yes, I know that. I have a nice 65" 4K one which runs WebOS 3.0. I have been very pleased with the Plex client on it, but I believe it is about a year old now (I know it is sometime in 2016 when it was last updated).
I thought NetCast was no longer in development. If LG isn’t actively developing it then that may either delay support from third parties such as Plex (due to priorities) or result in it being totally dropped.
As for WebOS, one can only speculate if fragmentation will cause a problem down the line (WebOS 1.x, 2.x, 3.x, 4.x and so on) but WebOS is still in development at least.
Either way, I too have an LG 65" 4K HDR Smart TV with WebOS 3.0 and I would very much like to see an update to its Plex app as well. I also have a 55" 4K Smart TV with WebOS 2.0.
Last I checked Samsung had a larger market share in the Smart TV arena, therefore, it stands to reason that the larger share would get the faster results.
@Octavean - I was just asking … hoping for a miracle … NetCast is no longer in development by LG and not even WebOS 1.x, 2.x and I think also 3.0 since they did not updated WebOS 3.0 TVs to 3.5 this year.
Folks, welcome to Plex forums.
Plex rarely if ever releases road maps of client/product/feature releases.
Sorry, but that’s the way it is.
Wish all you want.
I’ve got a Roku, which according to recent articles guestimating over the top boxes, has 37% of the market share for streaming boxes. Many others have other devices.
We’re all waiting to know which client will have TV updated next.
We’re going to keep waiting until they either release (or not).
Can’t blame us for asking can you? I too have an LG 65" 4K TV with great Plex App build in and waiting for Live TV update. For now, it does work pretty well using the Plex.tv web based app in the TV’s browser.
