No LiveTV or DVR on LG Smart TV

Hi, I’m new to Plex and I’ve managed to setup my server to show my media on my LG tv. I just upgraded to Plex Pass last night, and the tuner appears to be working (can see channels on the server). However, the Live TV and DVR menus don’t show up on my TV. Plex and the TV Plex client are latest versions. I’m assuming this is because it needs a client update from LG - is there anything I’m doing wrong?

I have two LG 4K Smart TV’s and as you have noticed, the available Plex Application is relatively old. An updated Plex app for LG WebOS would probably address this but its anyone’s guess when or even if this will ever happen.

In contrast I have noticed that there is a fairly new Emby app for LG WebOS Smart TVs.

So in this case I use other hardware for Plex Live TV / DVR in conjunction with these LG Smart TVs such as the Amazon FireTV and AppleTV.

If you have a 2017 or later 4K LG TV, there may be a yellow dot next to your username in the app, allowing early access to the new LG app beta. It’s a significant improvement (I seriously like it), though still has some bugs and is running fairly slow. But it’s a nice upgrade. That’s the good news. However, it also does not have TV/DVR available in the functionality yet.

Yes I noticed that by my name and I tried it in hopes that there were DVR capabilities built into the early release. However as you noted nothing yet. Hopefully they’ll build it in.

Just got this response from LG when I asked about updating the client…

I didn’t notice that yellow dot next to my username but then I haven’t used that app on the LG Smart TV in some time. I’ll have to check when I get a chance.

But if you have a Apple, Android tablet or phone you can from lounge chair control you DVR functions.

Yeah, I have other options like an Apple TV, iOS devices, Amazon FireTV and I am considering buying an nVidia Shield.

Still I would like to see the LG WebOS Smart TV app updated. They keep updating the Netflix app, Hulu app and Amazon app for LG and as I stated before even Emby has a recent release. Clearly this is up to the software developers but it’s a good indicator as to where they are putting their efforts or if they care to put in any effort,…

Smart TV apps used to rarely get updated (or so I hear) but that isn’t what I am seeing with these newer models. It’s just that certain companies are much more diligent then others in this respect,…

OK, gave it a shot.

The early access LG beta app is very similar to the Apple TV version and FireTV version aesthetically speaking but has some added functionality. I came across some bugs but it works fairly well overall even over WiFi.

Naturally there is no TV / DVR support,…

Still a good effort though.

My parents have an LG smart tv in Jamaica, and Plex works fine on it. In Jamaica, they only have 4 channels (two are not clear at all), and having 35 station from Detroit got my Dad all excited! I let them use my account info, so they have access to everything.
So now I return home to the USA. I basically have the same exact TV. Its Web OS 2.1.1, and I updated the Plex App. Everything looks exactly the same, BUT the Live TV option isn’t on my TV. How is this possible? My Plex server is also updated to the latest version. HELP!!

I have Plex version 4.13.1 webOS 2.2.0 and a plex membership

I’m finding that the LG app now shows the LiveTV option (which didnt in previous versions) allows me to record conent, but does not allow me the watch LIVE content (button not available)
I can’t find this restriction documented anywhere
