Plex is reaching into the media files when the DVR is set to “Keep Last 5 Episodes”

Instead of just deleting the episodes from the DVR folder Plex is also reaching into the library files and deleting those as well.

The DVR files are on a completely separate drive and directory. Deleting of my media files was not expected. I couldn’t figure out why the media files kept disappearing.

Wow, this is really bad. Thanks for reporting this. You should tag a few Plex employees and try to get their attention on this.

I was thinking about turning this functionality on for quite a while now but never trusted it to prune the library correctly.

Ya, I couldn’t figure out why a show I was starting to watch kept getting half the season deleted. Then I noticed 4 other shows were missing all but the last 5 episodes, then it dawned on me what was happening.

What you could probably do is deny write access to your regular libraries for the user running PMS and only give write access to the DVR folder.

Either way, this needs to be fixed.

I agree.

I also wish the DVR was separated by user. Although I could see how that could get redundant. As a work around I have just made different folders for house member users that their recordings go into each folder. My dad set the keep last 5 episodes on a couple of shows he set to DVR, and that’s when this issue arose.
