Wow…I used to love you Plex…I’ve been a subscriber for years…if anything is going to make me cancel and jump to ahem EMBY…it is this ■■■■…why are you withdrawing support for live TV in Australia?! And then suggesting I use someone who charges $8 a month for a frigging TV guide…that’s more than I pay for your in-the-past excellent service.
So frustrated with you guys right now…I think I’ll save up my list subscription money from Plex and buy a better supported TV tuner from hdhomerun(currently using hauppage) with a competitor…Plex seems to be closer o Apple MK2 than ever before…absolute bull
Please read Update on EPG changes for Live TV/DVR for more information.
I appreciate the reply and also the link that explains more but why are we being pointed to a service that’s paid for with a big nudge in that direction without mentioning other options free or otherwise??
While there are other free options, the data in them is not as good as the previous data from Gracenote. The IceTV guide (which costs AUD $2.99 per month) is far superior to the Gracenote data, and other free options.
Thankyou Dave but I have cancelled my plex pass now for reasons detailed in the Plex feedback form and on here
If you’re unhappy with this as I am, I have written a detailed post here about it
I am a PlexPass user and just equally disappointed with Plex as well for not going to the effort of supporting a free TV guide service ( even less quality would be acceptable ). All that “cut the cord” … I bought a tv tuner exclusively for Plex and now useless when I go to Live TV / DVR there’s nothing I can do in there !
Even more disappointing is to see the emails US users have been receiving from Plex ensuring them they’re not affected because they are in the US and that only a “small number of users” are affected by this, but searching the internet seems as there are so many users affected. Really not cool Plex
I’m sorry, but I’m not sure what emails you’re referring to with US users. I’m not personally aware of anything like that. We changed to an entirely new provider for EPG data, which has slightly different worldwide coverage. Some additional countries were added, and unfortunately, some other countries were no longer supported.
@DaveBinM here is the link to the email in question: " https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/b47010/plex_making_changes_to_tv_guide_forcing_external/ "
And this is what it states "(Plexdude email name) (Plex, Inc.) Mar 23, 8:42 AM PDT Hi, (…) We did send a notification out yesterday to a fairly small number of users who will be affected by a change in our EPG provider in the future. Those changes affect data for a few countries, almost all of which have very few Live TV/DVR users for Plex.
The upcoming change does not affect guide data for US users."
From what I can read there, that appears to be a one off email that was a reply to someone who emailed our billing team, not a mass communication email telling people they’re unaffected. At the time the initial email in that thread was sent, we believed we would still be supporting the Australian EPG, however, we were informed several weeks later that our new metadata provider no longer supported Australian EPG data.
Not Happy with this PLEX I paid for a service and a big part of that was because I could use it as my DVR. Now you have changed things and in Australia it does not work. I will not pay for another service to get this to work because I have already paid you for this service. I found a free option, however when I put in the country as Australia it does not bring up the box to input the post code. Please bring back support for Australia.
@zephram When using another EPG source (such as IceTV or Freepg), you need to click the Have an XMLTV guide on your server? option. You can read more here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/using-an-xmltv-guide/
