I have been having trouble with Live TV playback through the Plex App on my Amazon FireTV device. The issue seems to be progressive (gets worse the longer you watch) and consists of playback freezing. There is no “jump” or interruption it as if we hit the pause button on the DVR, counted a few seconds and hit play again. After a hour or two of watching, playback interruption becomes intolerable (10+ seconds plus every three minutes) and I shut if down. I have NO idea what is causing this, hoping someone could help me decipher my logs and get to the bottom of the problem.
Plex Server: Version 1.11.0.4666
HDHomeRun CONNECT HDHR4-2US
Amazon FireTV: OS 5.2.6.1
Fire TV Home Version 6.0.0.2-007
Plex App Version (FireTV): 6.11.2.3107
Plex App Player: ExoPlayer v2
I have the same issue running on synology nas… i am returning HDHomeRun Connect Duo and getting the HDHomeRun Extend device that has built in transcoding to convert mpeg2 to h.264
That sounds like buffering. I have an Xbox remote connected that will do the same thing. Check your connections, cables, and remove any microwaves or tinfoil in the way of the wireless path to the router.
Setup is the official PlexServer Docker (running in Unraid System) Version 1.10.1.4602
Streaming on both nvidia shield and a FireTV.
HDhomeRun PRIME
The apps on the streamers have issues - when scrolling fast (to the right) under “On Right Now”, it’s gets so far then freezes and crashes, auto restarts app.
Next during the Live TV playback, it might be fine for an hour or 20 mins (or 5), then it will freeze, or FF really fast, or be in slow-mo and then just hang. Force stopping the app will reset it and you can “try” again for a period of time. I don’t thing this is a transcoding issue as it is using “Direct Play” for both of those apps. And I don’t think this is a server issue - I think it is the local app on each device. Haven’t tired iOS app long enough to confirm issues or not with it.
Get this fixed or I’m taking my $4.99 some where else next month.
I’d be happy to post logs too, but again, I think it’s really the app not the server.
I’ll throw my equipment freezing into the ring as well. I’m seeing my firestick freezing too after XX minutes. Could be an hour before it freezes could be 30 minutes or even two hours, but it freezes. Then when I try to tune any channel (or the same one again), it is unable to tune anything. Once I restart PMS, I can re tune again.
I also installed PlexMediaServer on a Ubuntu VM - having the EXACT same results. Just to rule out anything with the Unraid docker.
Last night Live TV streamed fine to my Nvidia streamer for over an hour. Then during a commercial it started acting up. The behavior is at least consistent (typically during commercials). The live show will start “fast forwarding” – skipping forward, stopping, moving really fast, stopping, etc – you get the idea, and the audio sounds just like chipmunks - LOL. When the “show” comes back on it “behaves” but then the audio sync is off.
Interestingly I don’t seem to have this issue on my AFT. At least never had it happen yet when I’m in my office.
However, I did record a few shows and in at least one of them the issue is toward then end… So this would point more to the MediaServer and the a client issue…
I’m seeing the same thing. Server on Ubuntu 64-bit. Viewing recorded TV on the Web App (Chrome on Ubuntu). Certain shows do it every few minutes and some shows don’t do it at all. Started when I upgraded from 1.10.1.4602 to 1.11.0.4666. Playback doesn’t resume. I have to play with skipping forward and back to get it to start playing again. It’s making the DVR feature almost unusable.
I’m having the same issues as @spetersen0528. I fixed it a while back by disabling passthrough. However, the issue is back again. This time with passthrough disabled. I’ve got no clue how to fix it. Live TV is now unless again.
My situation has cleared up, but still have occasional DVR recording issues. Found AP Bio never seemed to record (not a priority conflict either) would sometimes get half a show or maybe 15 minutes. Big Bang still glitches on occasion, but might be recording two shows at once. Been seeing consistent improvements over the last 6 months, or maybe I have been watching less TV. Playback has been fixed magically for me and only see occasional DVR issues.
Will look over the next week and see if things went to hell again.
I was recently watching the world cup and about 45 minutes into it, there was buffering. It was extremely frustrating. I use the roku and I did notice that if I left the resolution to “original” it continously buffered, completely unwatchable, but if I lowered the resolution to 4mb 720p, then it would not buffer until it did, 45 minutes later. If I lower the resolution any further, then the image is not clear, which is a waste of an HD broadcast. CAN SOMEONE AT PLEX PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS!!!
I am starting to believe that all buffering is due to trans-coding of Meg 2 video which is what is used in TV broadcasting…
sometimes it works flawlessly for a short time then goes into buffing…Only if Plex could give us an update that would help with the trans coding of TV broadcast…only then would they have a kickass Media Server
I received a 6 month PlexPass free as a promotion for purchasing the HDHOMERUN. If this isn’t corrected, I see no reason to extend. I’ll go back to a FireTV, but lose DVR.
I’m also having this issue, I usually get around 20 minutes of playback before it locks up. I have 2 HD Home Run Connect boxes, and watching using the App works fine. I’m running my Plex media server as a VM on a very lightly loaded DL380 G7 with 192GB of RAM. While I didn’t see any resource constraints I still tried everything from 1 CPU to 8 CPU’s, 4GB ram to 32GB. Are there any logs I can review for cause?
Same here. Is this still an issue.
The whole reason I got Plex with HD home run was to record and watch shows. It intolerable.
Anyone found a work around?
