Live TV - Recoding in Progress - No Start from Beginning?

Server Version#: 1.43.4.10903
Player Version#: Mixed. This is observed on both Google streamers and ATV 4K with the new app layout.

As our mix of devices have been receiving the latest Plex application updates with the new layout, I’ve noticed a key feature that appears to be missing. I’m hoping I just haven’t missing how to trigger the option and it’s still present.

The feature that appears to be missing is this:

  1. You set a show to record with DVR
  2. The recording starts while you are not viewing the channel.
  3. While the recording is in progress, you select to watch the channel (which shows that the show is being recorded), and you’re prompted to select whether you want to start from the beginning or watch live.
  4. You make your selection and enjoy your entertainment.

With the recent app update, now when I perform step 3 I no longer receive the option to select on whether to start from the beginning or watch live.

I noticed that pausing the program will show the progress bar, which shows progress since the show started, but I’m unable to go back in time. Every time I attempt to adjust the progress slider to a point back in time before I started watching the program, it automatically starts playing at the point when I started watching the live TV. The program that was recorded prior to me starting the live TV session isn’t accessible while the program is actively recording.

I’m hoping this is either user error on my end or a bug that scheduled to be fixed. This was one of our most used features in the older interface, allowing us to start watching live programs ~15 minutes after they started and skip commercials to save time.

Support in getting this feature working is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I’ve been experiencing this same issue. You’re not missing anything, it’s broken.

I downgraded to the older Android app on my Fire TV, but now that no longer works correctly.

AppleTV version 2026.18.0

Being able to time shift a program already in progress was a very important function of the DVR. This new app version 2026.18.0 has broken this feature. I can only access a recording, from the start, after the program is over.

The app update broke many of my prior setting, so I don’t know if something happened there that has caused this. I’ve lost all my favorites in guide, also.

There’s so much terrible with this updated app. I’m gobsmacked.

I downgraded to an older version of the Plex app on my Fire TV because of this issue, but now that doesn’t work either.

I’m now running 2026.18.1.

How do I watch a recording in progress from the beginning? In older versions, it would ask “Watch from beginning” or “Watch live.”

It no longer asks. Further, when I select the current episode in the guide, it takes me to the Live recording in progress, but I cannot rewind. It acts like it’s rewinding, but it just takes me back to the beginning of my current Live session.

The same thing happens on iOS. Works okay on Web.

I see there is a ticket for this already but i do not have an ETA

Thank you for the quick reply!

I know the team has a lot on their plate with all the updates, and I realize not everything is going to work perfectly the first time. I’m just happy to hear that this feature isn’t deprecated and is coming back (hopefully soon).

Definitely interested in any updates you have, as they’re available.

My wife will also be glad to hear it’ll come back at some point. I didn’t realize how often we used that feature until it disappeared.

Real fun starting a program late to skip the commercials and getting a major spoiler instead. Been a long time user and this update is probably the worst I’ve ever seen.

Having the same issue.
