Can anyone tell me if it possible to use local metadata xml files for these. I am having trouble with plex removing or ignoring the embedded metadata so I would like to create my own. I have scripts to update the file metadata but this seems like a better solution.
I can see some older posts referring to local media agents but I am unable to save any libraries with these agents. I am beginning to think it can’t be done which seems ridiculous.
there is no support for that.
the agents only read embedded metadata in MP4 files when “Prefer Local Metadata” is enabled.
There was mention from Plex that nfo file support was going to be a feature in the near future… that might help if it’s implemented (I think it was in the “fireside” chat). Here’s some info about how Jellyfin uses them: Local .nfo metadata | Jellyfin
yeah is it something the the server metadata agent dev is working on afaik but it is not in the app yet. I just didn’t want to make any promises since i do not have any ETA
