Compatibility with Jellyfin's local Metadata

I know this topic has been partially discussed already, but I see pre 2019 posts on this and no meaningful follow-up, so here I am.

I am a happy Plex Pass owner, especially satisfied with Plexamp and features like watch together, but recently I also set up a Jellyfin server and in my experience it has one huge advantage that Plex currently lacks, which is the possibility to store metadata locally.

This is excellent for portability and just a convenient feature in general. Plus the ability to actually personalize the agents to match the metadata helps a lot. I have stored for years the Game of Thrones extras (Histories & Lore and also all the Behind the Scenes, Featurettes etc) and it was only with Jellyfin that I was able to actually match them with metadata info from TMDB and store it locally.

Now, the very least I would expect Plex to do is be able to read these local .nfo files and update the server database, instead of simply being limited to updating thumbnails and preview pics…

Thank you in advance

As you‘ve already established, there’s an existing feature suggestion for Plex to support nfo files — so I’ll close this as a duplicate.

That being said… you might want to take a look at this preview announcement:
