Looking for Apple TV 4/4K Beta Testers

Just updated to 1.0 (64). Using a remote Plex server, the posters for movies aren’t displaying, just a text title. Posters are showing in the TV section, an all posters show if I switch to local server.

Problem doesn’t happen when using Plex or mrmc. Nothing is showing in the top shelf yet either.

Nice, All those issues seem fixed now with the update. Now I notice that playback from a remote server chokes to a pause after 5-12 seconds of play. Even at 720kpbs, 320p. If I try the same video from the Plex Client, with Home Streaming at Maximum and Internet Streaming at 12Mbps, 1080p, it’s fine.

Hmm, alright I’ll look into it and see if I can figure out what the difference is. Appreciate the feedback!

I would really like to test this if it’s working with Plex cloud also. The link appers to be dead though.

@pkonnektom I don’t use Plex Cloud myself, but I’ve done some testing and it seems to work fine – it’d definitely be helpful to have someone testing it with Plex Cloud.

I’m still working through the playback issues reported by @itzme, once the next build is available I’ll get the link working again.

Posters in the app are working fine still, but the tvOS top shelf for Catch is showing blanks again. That seems to happen over time.

The new build fixed the empty posters in tvOS top shelf. I’ll test the remote server later. File audio and video attributes/tags would be helpful in future builds. Good work!

I was able to stream a 1080p video with the Remote Video Quality set at 12 Mbps from a remote Plex share. nice!

@itzme relieved to hear that!

Not sure if you saw but I sent out a subsequent built last night that included video resolution for movies + episodes.

What were you looking for in terms of audio, just the channel count or did you want specifics like DTS, AC3, etc? I looked at the official plex app as well as Apple’s iTunes app and didn’t see anyone listing specifics — I assume it’s due to the limit number of codecs ATV can play, so most stuff gets transcoded.

Anyways, gearing up to finally release this thing so any other major gaps for you would be helpful to know!

@shnhrrsn It would be great if we can have specifics like DTS 5.1/71/, AC3 etc etc. If it’s not possible though, totally understandable. Loving the app thus far!

The video type is a good start, and I’d agree the the audio tags need to be specific, for several reasons including (hopefully) future proofing for the next DTS-capable ATV.

While maybe not a “major gap” you could certainly differentiate Catch with MrMc, Infuse, Squire, etc by adding good Rotten Tomatoes data, cast headshots and bios, and tv theme songs, like Plex. I’m not sure if that’d cost you money or not though. In my case those features are important when the family is browsing to watch something, and it’s why we start the evening in Plex, but usually play the file in another app.

You should feel good about all your latest improvements!

I haven’t been able to use this for a while because I keep getting error “An unknown error occurred, please try again.”

I have tried signing out of my plex account and back in and re-linking, but I still get the same error.

Any ideas?

Also, does Catch use Plex’s user login ability yet? I won’t be able to use this app until it supports that anyway because I use it for parental controls…

@phunkysai Interesting, haven’t heard about this before… How far into the app are you able to get before you get that error?

As for Plex user login, are you referring to Plex Home? I’m planning to get to this very soon!

@itzme I believe Plex provides a lot of that data free for Plex Pass users and I’m planning to incorporate it – unlikely to do it for non Plex Pass users, at least not for v1!

Actually all of the Rotten Tomatoes data is available to everyone, Plex Pass or not. Everyone gets the RT score and a large number of reviews. Everyone also gets cast headshots theat cross references when actors are in other casts, and everyone gets TV theme music — all without being a Plex Pass.

I believe the closest feature (and maybe only such meta-data feature?) thats part of a paid Plex Pass is trailers.

@itzme oh awesome! Sorry I didn’t mean to imply the app itself would limit to Plex Pass, it’ll just use whatever the Plex server provides… Having Plex Pass myself I’m not 100% clear on what’s paid and what isn’t and assumed some of that stuff was paid only, happy to hear it’s not!

As for the error, II went back into settings and clicked on my server again and somehow it loaded correctly this time. Who knows?

For Plex Home, I do believe that is what I am talking about. Currently I have my main login use a password so my kids can’t get in, and they have their own login.

And lastly, is there any way we could get an option for List View everywhere (seasons and everything)? I would even like the top-most menu with the libraries to be down in a vertical list menu as well. This way it’s consistently a vertical scroll through a list throughout Plex.

Thanks!

Any way to get in on this beta? Link in the first post isn’t working anymore.

I would like to try the beta as well.

I too would like to beta test!

@shnhrrsn Bro, I would love to beta test your app… I have the new Apple TV 4K… And I have 4K HDR content on my PLEX server, so I would love to test and see if it can direct play… Let me know what I need to do to sign up for the beta.
