Lose Meta Data if change directory location?

When I set my Plex server up on my QNAP I set up two libraries as follows:

1.TV
/share/Download/rtorrent/medialibrary/TV Shows

  1. Movies
    /share/Download/rtorrent/medialibrary/

I had intended to have #2 as the below but made a mistake
/share/Download/rtorrent/medialibrary/Movies

Question is can I simply edit the directory location to Movies without losing my metadata (posters etc) and personal data (like what I’ve watched)? Or is a more complicated process required. I need to change as it occasionally pulls in TV shows.

To play it safe:

  1. Uncheck / disable Settings > [Server Name] > Library > Empty trash automatically after every scan
  2. Move your content to the new target location
  3. Add that folder to your library, remove the currently linked folder
  4. Wait for it to update the library
  5. Click ... > Manage Library > Empty Trash

Thanks, I employed tom80H’s suggestion, it seems like it wasn’t needed but quick to do fail safe so makes sense.

Plex scanned the movie folders for a few minutes. It did not refresh meta data or locations of movies in progress. All shows that were from the TV directory now have a red garbage can icon on them, indicated they are no longer in the directory library.

Later, I rechecked the empty trash option. It refreshed all my meta data but did leave watched movies / time into movies as it. All TV shows with red garbage cans were properly removed. Works for my needs, might cause issues if someone is trying to keep specific meta data. I’m happy with default metadata so don’t know what custom options are.
