Lost and don’t know what to do

Hi there everyone,

I just got into plex I am using my server off of an athlon 2 x4 620/8gb ram/480gb ssd using a synology ds218j with 2x 4tb wd reds on google wifi (200 down/8 up). I can’t run more than one stream at a time or barely at 720p if it needs to transcode. Is this a setup issue or do I just need a new machine? If so, I do need it to be able to handle 4x 1080p streams and possibly 2x 4K streams but that would be rarely with a budget of 400 any tips would be greatly appreciated.I am running plex on 2 Sony TVs built in chrome cast 900f and 900e, an Xbox one (the original black) and an Xbox on s/Vizio chromecast (those are either or though). I was also thinking about getting the lifetime plex pass and running hardware acceleration with either a 560ti (I already have) or picking up possibly a quadro p400.

Thank you again for any help

Edit: budget for a new pc is ~400

You definitely need more horsepower to do what you want.

A good place to start: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200375666-plex-media-server-requirements/ it contains breakdowns of CPUs, NAS’s and benchmarks to design/buy something new if needed. Kinda depends on what you need vs. what you can afford although a lot of us have fairly cheap setups. Some of us have crazy expensive setups.

My budget is around 400 bucks. I was looking at an old workstation with a Xeon or building a new ryzen 3 2200g/8gb. Not sure which would be better for the long run.

I bought this (refurbed) from Amazon and I can do 8 streams (LiveTv, HD 720p movies and Tv shows) simultaneously in house on 3 Roku’s, 1 Desktop , 2 Laptops (one at a college about 103 miles away) and 2 phones. So I’m happy. Not sure if you’re in the USA though

I am based in the US. I did find at HP Z420 Workstation Intel Xeon E5-1620 V2 3.70GHZ 8GB RAM 250GB HDD for 150 and slap my SSD in it. Probably gonna pull the trigger on that unless anyone has a better suggestion
