Another bump!
I purchased a lifetime Plex Pass hoping this would be an option, but sadly it isn’t. Please, devs!

Plex won’t display lyrics anymore, even if they are ID3-embedded. Just a message now I have to get a Plex Pass o_O
Today, I was thinking of getting myself a Plex Pass so I could get lyrics automatically displayed for my songs. Seeing this post, however, made me think twice.
Also I’ve been trying for hours to somehow get my audio M3U playlists importet to Plex, but doesn’t seem possible
Adding on my request to have a toggle to have lyrics always show.
Same. Why is this not already a thing? Come on Plex…
Want to keep this train going for another month
Today, I was trying out an album which I knew to have ID3-embedded lyrics, and, while looking for a way to keep the lyrics ‘always on’ (just as Apple Music does), I found out that there is this feature request here for four years now…
The only explanation I can come up with for having them ‘on demand’ (i. e. only when clicking the ‘lyrics’ button) may have to do with the agreement that Plex has with LyricFind — LyricFind do not list the many possible contract agreements, but I can imagine that they have a ‘pay-per-usage’ agreement, where LyricFind only charges Plex when a user actually presses the button to show lyrics. If there were an ‘always on’ setting on Plex, that would mean that all users would be viewing lyrics all the time, and Plex would be paying — all the time! — for those lyrics. Somehow, this would have to be charged to the users.
The alternative, of course, is to have Plex read the ID3-embedded lyrics, and have a setting that would read those first, and only use LyricFind if no ID3-embedded lyrics would be found. I also fail to understand why they allow lyrics (sync’ed and unsync’ed) to be uploaded on separate files, but do not allow ID3-embedded lyrics. Again, there might be contractual agreements with LyricFind, in the sense that if LyricFind is active, Plex cannot use any other system to show lyrics. The rationale behind that would be avoiding people to use LyricFind once to get some lyrics, then simply copy & paste the lyrics to the appropriate place, and never need LyricFind again. I believe that’s one of the reasons. Still, you can do that very easily today, by copying the lyrics to a separate .txt
file and uploading that…
4 years, 120 upvotes, still nothing. Why would they allow do file feature requests is still beyond me.
Yes, you are correct. There is a post from Elan from years ago, stating this is the reason for making you click after every song to see lyrics, to dissuade users from using the feature to avoid Plex having to pay LyricFind fees.
I don’t actually use LyricFind (or any Plex metadata) myself as I prefer to use all offline metadata (.lrc files for music lyrics, jpg for art, nfo for data), many of which are not available on LyricFind. Plex really should just drop LyricsFind as a Plex Pass feature if their licensing model is too prohibitive to allow proper implementation and focus on proper support of .lrc/txt files that can at least mimic amazon music lyrics. At the very least they should have an auto-show option for offline lyrics. Lyrics don’t work at all for synced music!
Well, I think this is the official request for this so vote added - its not a feature I use often but even after just a few clicks its bugging me enoromously.
This seems like an easy something to implement. Please let’s just knock this off your board of things to do.
This can’t be that difficult to fix, please someone spend a few hours on it
and just do it…
“Lyrics on if available” - It’s a feature that’s always been available in Amazon Music. Either lyrics or a picture of the album cover.
I keep coming back to Plex to see whether anyone there cares what features users need or have been regularly requested, but am always disappointed.
4,5 years later still not implemented?
Disappointing…
+1 plex do it
Yes come on Plex. Just do it!
yes THIS needs to be added as a switch so we can turn it on or off (in the settings like “sticky lyrics” or “auto load lyrics for each song” ; and if set to on it will auto load and stay in karaoke/lyrics mode so we dont have to keep manually hitting the lyrics button. This needs to be across ALL platforms both Plex for laptop, roku, ps4 and plexamp apps.
This is the biggest annoyance for my wife who loves to see her lyrics. I dont care Im a music mainly guy
please add this feature, I didnt know this was already a requedt and I put a new one in but then they tole me abotu this request so Im voting on it here now.
I hope it gets added soon!
thnaks Plex team!!
Has this now been implemented yet?
If yes, can someone explain “how to”?
If no, where can I vote?
Thank you, enjoy the week!
@all: forget my last question: I “found” the Vote button!
I voted for this option, but after 4 years only 169 votes…don’t think a lot of people want this options inplemented…crying
Just do it!
