It appears that this feature is not available when my macos and / or iOS Plexamp (4.8.1) connects to a music library on PMS 1.32.5.7349-8f4248874 running on an M2 Pro.
Similarly (and possibly relatedly) the “Mixes for You” feature does not appear to work on either of these either.
Both features are available when I connect to a similar PMS instance (1.32.57349) running on an Intel mac.
I’m assumming from things mentioned in other threads that the Arm version of PMS may not (?yet?) support these features? Is this so? And if so - how long before it does?
Alternatively, if there is some voodoo I need to do to get these features working.
Unfortunately, the neural network libraries required for the sonic analysis are not currently available for ARM-based processors. That means that this feature is currently only supported for Plex Media Server running on x86/x86-64 processors (e.g. Intel and AMD). (The exception here are macOS systems running on the M1 chip, which can still make use of the functionality because of their Rosetta 2 emulation capabilities.)
Should the libraries become available for ARM processors in the future, it’s possible this requirement could change.
If you read my original question you will see that I was aware of the Arm limitation - my question was actually about whether anyone had intel on when it might be lifted.
I have no issue with you choosing to run the software on whatever hardware you like: I don’t really see how your preferences in this regard are relevant in any way to my question.
No one knows because Plex does not publish a roadmap. Since the necessary libraries do not support ARM, it is as I said: “The wait for full support could be long.”
I don’t really see how your preferences in this regard are relevant in any way to my question.
Well, I was pointing out an alternative that would give you full feature support. Don’t get salty.
I just bought a Mac Mini M2 Pro. (The old Mac Mini was 12 years old). I have an extensive library so it’s taking days for the sonic analysis tasks to run. I’m don’t to 3,000 albums left so maybe in a day or so. I thought I read somewhere that if the sonic analysis feature on a particular platform wasn’t available, the option to compute sonic analysis would not show up in the settings
