This seems to be exclusive to M1 macs. Additionally it may be a problem Apple introduced in MPNowPlayingInfoCenter where it appears certain function calls are pathologically slow sometimes.
In previous plex mac version, there is no similar problem, the problem only appeared in recent plex mac version.

1.15.1 was an out-of-cycle release and thus only included changes to the UI and thus doesn’t include the workaround for Apple’s bug.
This is NOT only related to M1 macs. I have a Macbook Pro 2015 running Monterey that behaves the same. Played a FLAC file yesterday, now I can’t open the app because it remembers the FLAC files a “last played”.
After today’s update, the problem seems to be solved, thanks
