Mac mini or Nvidia Shield 4K

Hi Plex community!

I’ve been looking on multiple forums for a while now, and i can’t seem to find the answers i’m looking for.

For the last couple of years i’ve been using a mid 2011 mac mini with a intel core i5 processor as my plex server, streaming up to 1080p X264 to my Samsung 4K TV.
My entire media library is hooked on my mac mini via a usb 3.0 2 TB external harddrive, it worked (for the most part) like a charm through [Plex] the last couple of years.
I noticed that when i don’t use subtitles there was almost no stutter at all. With subtitles there was a stutter from time to time.

As of recent i’m becoming more and more interested in 4K movies. For example, i have the Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in 4K HDR x265 (+/- 40 GB).
It’s becoming clear (obviously) that my intel core i5 just isn’t capable of transcoding this file to a supported H.264-format. When i play it, it will almost constantly stutter. There is no direct play.

I’ve been looking into some new hardware to replace my mac mini so that i can watch 4K HDR 10 bit x265 files through Plex without stuttering.
I think (for my situation) a Nvidia Shield Pro would be a great option. Maybe i’m wrong, please let me know.
Also i have two questions:

  1. If i buy a Nvidia Shield Pro, will it play 4K HDR 10 bit x265 files with subtitles without stuttering?
  2. Can i just use this Nvidia Shield Pro as my Plex server and my Samsung 4K TV as my client?

Many thanks in advance!

P.S. Everything will be hardwired connected through Ethernet.
