MacOS 10.13.4 Beta with Safari 11.1 Stutter

Hey all! I am running Plex Server 1.11.1.4760 and while streaming Plex, over 5 Ghz wifi, with MacOS 10.13.4 Beta and Safari 11.1, any video I play will run for about 10 seconds, stutter, go back about 3 to 5 seconds, play another 10 seconds, stutter, and repeat over and over again.

I tried rebooting my MacBook Pro 2017 15", I tried rebooting my Windows server machine, and I was about to give up. My Plex Apps on various iPads and Apple TV’s work with no issues.

Then I loaded up FireFox on the same MacBook Pro that was having the issue with the same exact Wifi connection. It played without a problem. What could Safari be doing to cause an issue with playback? Does anyone have an idea?

Safari beta? All bets are off…

If that is the case, shouldn’t someone at Plex be made aware of this so they can fix it? Safari is pretty much the only browser I recommend using on the Mac because all other browsers suck much more battery power.

Seeing the same here. Started with the current macOS 10.13.4 beta that shipped with Safari 11.1. Haven’t tried the Safari Tech Preview, but assume it’s the same. Chrome still works fine as well.

Same issue here, but it even happens on a wired connection and was happening before the macOS 10.13.4 beta for me.I’ve been unable to play pretty much anything through a browser for quite a while and switched to PMP in the meantime. Music also stutters and randomly jumps back to earlier points in time.

I apologize for my lack of knowledge but what is PMP?

This looks to be an issue with Safari that is shipping with the latest MacOS Beta. I only upgraded to it so I can have iCloud enabled iMessage.

Is there any other way to watch Plex on MacOS outside of a browser? I hate using Chrome and Firefox but I guess that can be an acceptable workaround when I need it for now.

Plex Media Player

Download: https://www.plex.tv/downloads/, get an app, select Mac and download and install the stand alone (non-browser client).

I rarely use Safari and have no issues with Chrome, fwiw.

Silly me. I looked in the Mac App Store and never even thought of looking on the download tab. Yeah, I would rather use a client than a browser any day. However, it is concerning the new version of Safari is having these types of issues.

At least we have a good workaround → Use the Mac Client or use Firefox or Chrome instead of Safari.
