Make Plex as good as Kodi?

Hi Hope someone can help. I’d really like to get plex to work on my ps3, I tried it with PMS on an old PC and running PMS on a raspberry pi and neither worked very well. I’ve now got a QNAP TS251 NAS which should work well, but it doesn’t. Kodi is great but with plex I get the following issues:

Plex does not know I have a 5.1 sound system so does not select AC3 stream by default.
Aspect ration is sometimes wrong.
1080p MP4 playback stutters.

Kodi does all these things seamlessly, but i cant get kodi on my ps3. Is there some way of configuring plex client on the PS3 to know the tv aspect and sound channels I have ? All my mp4’s are ripped with stereo and AC3 audio, kodi knows which to play so I get Dolby 5.1(at least thats what my amp says) but I can’t make plex do this.

Any ideas?

The issue with aspect ratio is likely related to this thread

The issue with 5.1 sound: you need to ensure that within the PS3 app you have enabled the AC3 audio option. Hopefully that will resolve.

I also have issues streaming to my PS3: anything above about 4Mbps gets a bit stuttery (I think that’s the term). There are serious limitations in the media formats which the PS3/4 can play back (as imposed by Sony) look here. If your media is already in supported formats seriously consider using the wired network to your PS3 (if not already) this seems to make a massive difference. I’m sure there are other issues but I don’t have the time to trace/diagnose them unfortunately.

TBH I’ve given up with the PS3 and have ordered a Roku3 to replace it as my streaming client.

Thanks, I tried plex on a now tv box, and it works, aspect is fine and it has options to swap audio per movie. The PS3 interface looks way better though. Its a shame because plex as a dlna media server is great(I’ve switched exclusively to that now) but for the main tv kodi is staying put which is shame as less boxes is good. May be I’ll see what the plex app for kodi does ? Thanks for the response though and i’ll try it again when the next release is out.
