Make smart playlist from popular tracks

Hi, I would love the ability to make smart playlists with ‘popular’ (flame) as a filter. I know this is used for radio stations etc. but I would love to make some more complicated playlists with it. Would you consider adding this as a filter for tracks?

That doesn’t exist because it’s hard to query in our database, and it’s already what smart shuffle (on by default) does (bias towards popular tracks).

Thanks for the explanation @elan. Is there a document where I can read a bit more about the workings of smart shuffle? And in which situations is this active?

Not per se, it’s a server setting, on by default when shuffling playlists. Biases towards popular and less recently played tracks.

Aha that clarifies why always hear popular tracks when I shuffle all my tracks. A logical choice in most cases. Is there a trick to circumvent this if you really want to hear all your tracks completely random?

turn off smart shuffle.

I must be daft, but I’ve not found a setting to deactivate smart shuffle and still play tracks randomly. Can you elaborate how to do this?

In your server settings, make sure “show advanced” is enabled, and toggle this preference under “Library”

Thanks Simon, I wasn’t aware it’s a server setting. Would be great if we could influence this setting from Plexamp @elan
