Manage real BD library

What exactly do you do, when you “manage” them?
Is it just a list of what is in your collection?
Or are there other things, like e.g. where they are stored, or whether you have lent them to someone?

If you just want a list, you can do it like this: Add DVD or BR movies without ripping the files - Dumb library entry - #4 by OttoKerner
But this will not tell you which audio or subtitle languages are available, nor about any bonus content which may be contained on the disc.

Naturally, as a Plex fan, I think it is best to simply rip the discs and store their content as streamable videos. If done carefully, this will preserve and include all audio and subtitle languages which are on the disc.
Apart from some crude “games” and a certain type of still picture shows, you can also add all the bonus videos as “local extras” into Plex.

It’s all a matter of storage space (and some time). If I assume that you rip all the videos (including extras) without applying additional compression, I arrive at a required hard drive capacity of about 5.4 TB for 120 blurays (I calculated an average storage capacity of 45 GB per BD). Nowadays this can fit conveniently on one single hard drive.
