Manage user content automation

I built a script I wanted to share that automates managed users better. I think these functions should be built into plex.

I have kids and use a plex media server primarily to control what movies my kids have access to as I trust streaming services less and less. However, it becomes cumbersome sometimes to remember to. 1. lookup common sense media parental information, 2. label my movies with appropriate age (only at a computer), 3. Update which labels are allowed to watch when their birthday comes around. I have 5 kids and 5 managed users per age. Every movie on my server has an age rating.

So, I wrote python scripts to automate all of these steps. It saves common sense media parental information in the plex movie summaries, updates age_recommended labels based on common sense media recommendations, and approves age_apropriate movies automatically for each user on their birthday. Not much of a programmer, but it’s working on my server

There’s already an existing feature suggestion discussing an option to handle content ratings (and media access) based on common sense media. I suggest you vote in that thread in order to avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.

I saw that. But that’s only piece of what I’m suggesting. Right now it is combersome to have more than basic control over my kids access to media. I’m suggesting this tool I built and only part of it was suggested elsewhere.

In that case I admit I don’t fully understand your suggestion.
Is this actually about a post for the tips & tricks section (given you now posted/advertised it in the other thread)? If it’s still a suggestion… I assume the other thread is at least a foundation as it covers: (1) picking up the correct commonsensemedia.org rating and (2) automatically assigning the adequate rating filter for kids by allowing to enter their birthdays

2022 clean-up: abandoned / no feature suggestion
