If you’ll forgive the inference since I know you’ve posted in the Roku forums before, is this about the Roku specifically? If so, it’s supposed to be doing exactly what you described. The last update introduced a silly bug where it’s using milliseconds instead of seconds and so it never thinks you got to the 90% mark. It’ll be fixed in the next Roku update.
It has actually happened to me that when I’m watching a TV episode and when there are just a few minutes left I have to go do something else and I press stop. Since I have passed the 90% mark plex marks the episode as watched even though I have not finished watching it. What would be really useful is a dialog similar to when you start a video which has progress recorded, but instead of “Resume from 1:23:45” or “Start from beginning” it could say “Mark as watched” or “Set progress to 1:23:45”
I watch 95% on the roku. Didnt realise it was in place already minus some tweaks.
Thanks
Expanding on this idea, another way to prevent this problem would be to go by the chapter markers in the actual video file. If it has reached the last chapter (most movies having the last chapter as the credits) or a chapter with the name “Credits” (plex would have to first support chapter names for this one to work) mark as watched
My preference would be to extend this a bit further. Make it a PMS setting. So I can set videos marked as watched after x%.
This is a great idea that takes into account how the software is actually used.
Delightful to see that it was implemented!
I would like to be able to set this in PMS. possibly even on a per show basis.
I watch a lot of content synced to my phone with “Unwatched” items marked to sync and often I have to pause near the end and my phone goes to sleep and when I resume the file has been removed from my phone because plex marked it as watched.
Early 2021 clean-up: implemented
