Mass Renaming - what will happen?

Server Version#: Version 1.35.1.2632-c6783c78

I’m looking at updating some file naming in my collection to make it easier to maintain files. I keep resolution as part of the file name, and I want to do something like this:
(1080p) > (FullHD)
(2160p) > (UHD)

And so on.

From the file side, doing a mass rename of files will be pretty easy, but does anyone have experience with whether this would wreak havoc on my library? Would I lose tags, collection info, etc?

I looked around in the forums but didn’t spot a post that covered exactly this, so please link me if there is such a post!

they will refresh their metadata unless it’s locked. If you want to see what it does just do a single file and watch the results. It shouldn’t change played status, but if they are in manual collections at least (i don’t use auto so don’t know) they will be dropped and need to be re-added. It’s kind of like replacing a file with a different version, so no different to replacing say a FullHD version with a UHD one. They will be unavailable until the metadata refreshes.

Backup your database. First.

Un check “empty library after scanning “, rename your stuff, rescan, make sure everything rematches, turn the empty library back on, rescan. Done.
