Hi,
I plan to use Plex for 4k MKVs with TrueHD (and atmos) audio tracks. Apple 4K will do me no good as it needs MP4 and cannot support truehd afaik. The media player in my LG displays the MKVs however TrueHD is a challenge because I cannot get the tracks to the receiver. So I will depend on an external media player that
- supports MKV
- can be used with Plex
- supports TrueHD (and all other important formats like Atmos, DTS*)
- supports 4k
Any recommendations? A friend recommended HiMedia Q10 Pro since it will most likely be able to play anything you throw at it. Plex would be possible via Kodi XMBC plugins. Is that the only viable option?
Regards,
JP
Try looking into the Nvidia Shield, I have one and it works great. Now, I haven’t tested it with 4K and TrueHD but it should as well "play anything you throw at it.
I will take a look. Is the shield also a good Plex CLIENT though? I always reckoned it automatically would act as a plex server as well…

Yeah, I have the original one (Gen. 1) and the thing is a beast! Out of all of the others that I have tried, nothing comes close to it. I forget how to originally set it up but you can disable the Media Server and it works flawlessly as a client. (I believe all you have to do is disable the server and then you don’t have to deal with the server portion of plex on the device)
Take a look at an Odroid C2 running OpenPHT. It’s a seriously impressive combination
