media server on Arris router

I noticed that the Plex Media Server can be installed on one of the NETGEAR routers. I have an Arris SBG6900-AC router. Is it conceivable that the Plex Media Server can be installed on this router? This router has a media server (Samba and DNLA) built-in and has a USB port for connecting an external drive.

The NetGear router has a bit more CPU than what you have in your Arris router. It can handle transcoding 480p but that’s it. There are a few more limitations to it. Refer to the link here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/230934267-Netgear-Nighthawk-X10-Router

After you look that over, let me ask this: Do you really want to put something on your router which can affect its ability to connect to the internet? When you over work the CPU on the router, connection speeds, transfers and other internet activities are going to suffer. Are you sure his is what you really want?

Last thought. The version of Plex Media Server that can be installed on the NetGear X10 router is only public versions. This means that any Pass prerelease versions can’t be installed to the router. It also is limited in that you can’t set up premium music.

So I guess if you want to have a limited experience with Plex, this might seem like a good idea. Many would find it too limiting, though…
