How to set up Plex server on TP-Link AX 11000 router

Hello, I am trying to set up Plex server on my TP-Link AX 11000 router, but not sure how to do it. I asked the TP-Link support and they told me to ask Plex support. Please let me know. Thank you.

Just don’t.
A router is a router. It should not be doing double duty as server or anything of the sort.

Aside from this generalized recommendation, there are the important issues of

  • no server software updates, except when the router manufacturer supplies a new firmware version
  • restricted memory (important for storing metadata and the Plex database)
  • limited processing ability (transcoding in particular, but not only)
  • limited cooling capacity of the overall chassis, which can lead to overheating when heavily used

If Plex is not already pre-installed on your device, then I don’t know of any way of installing Plex onto it.
There is no download version of the Plex server software available for router devices.

Hello again, I have another question…I am installing the plex server on my desktop Win 10 Home and I have all my media ( videos, music, pics, movies, etc ) on a external 4tb drive. Should I attach the drive to my desktop via USB and watch the all my media on the Plex server like that or should I attach the drive to my TP-link AX 11000 router via USB and have the Plex server on my desktop configured to access the router and the drive that is attached to it and watch the media that way? Which one way should I do it? Thank you.

If you run your server on the desktop and only use the drive with that PC, there’s no immediate value add from connecting the drive to your router instead.
Keep in mind that connecting your drive to the router can also backfire as your media has to be passed through the network 2x:

  • the PMS running on your desktop will read the media from the network drive
  • your players will stream the media from the PMS running on the desktop
