Metadata agents for exported XBMC library

@bellocarico said:
Quick question, please.

I have read that XBMC exports the .nfo using a single name for movies so you normally have to make your mind up if you want to store the original or translated title.
As part of this XBMC → data migration though I generate my .nfo with a different program: ANT Movie Renamer, and have full flexibility on what to export and how to call it.
Would the XBMCnfoMoviesImport be able to understand the two different markup (whatever they are called)

<translated title>
<original title>

The idea if of course to populate the “Title” and “Original Title” respectively

Thanks!
:slight_smile:

Answering my own question (after a dip in the code):
Yes it works and the tags are:

<title></title> (for the translated one)
<originaltitle></originaltitle> (for the country of origin title)

it works :slight_smile:

Please understand, this is not going to be a “get everything at one shot” event.

Absolutely understood, my response was not intended to imply otherwise. If it did I apologise.

My goal is to facilitate the framework change to allow this and other plug-ins a better, and easier, integration. With the first step, relaxation of the existing exclusivity as it stands now, the primary plug-in here will work, right? It is free to progress at its pace in its direction and contribute to the composite Plex experience (the desired end goal).
If you look at this software architecturally, it only needs satisfy what the existing plug-ins want. Let them deal with all the nuances of putting everything in the database with all the proper linkages. Am I wrong with leveraging this thin layer of abstraction?

Agreed except that the first step only really covers where third party plugins contribute to a Plex agent. It does not cover where Plex plugins are to be used by a third party agent. Which is why I mentioned the Plex Theme Music case. Again I mention this not to imply that the first step is not a good one but to point out that it is not sufficient if the aim is to improve integration which is a two way street. Indeed third party developers may also need up their game in writing code that plays better with others and not just Plex code.

I notice that you have populated sort title with the original title if you use a poster with the original title that would make sense but if you go with a poster with the name in title then that will look a little odd as it means that the displayed title will not marry up with where it is in the sort order for sort by title.

Full bi-directional data flow is going to be the most difficult to facilitate. Think about what you’re essentially asking for:

" Using all the resources, algorithms, and software which make Plex what it is, make all this data easily & freely accessible to any and all third-party modules through an easily digestible format / mechanism."

While I cannot speak for the business interests of Plex with 100% certainty, I am 99% certain such a request will be declined almost categorically.

This is why I believe things must be done in small steps with the first step being open up the path which allow data to flow into Plex more easily. If we build a one-way path, over time, it can become a two-way road. This is why I suggest and advocate building the simple path albeit one-way.

Plex Media Server 1.4.1 is out for pass members…

Can anyone with pass confirm if the Season Art is now showing season 1,2,3,4 etc art instead of just the Show TV Poster.

Heads up to those using in on a Redhat Linux distro. A packaging bug sneaked through. Being rebuilt now. Cause: Some distros have 4.7.2 of the rpm builder others have 4.9.2 we got caught in the middle. Being mitigated now… Announcement at the top of the Linux forum for those impacted.

Still broken…broke immediately when I installed

Sigh… is this ever gonna be fixed :frowning:

I don’t understand… I really don’t.

I can put the posters in and they show up correctly… I know what we’re working for in this thread and keep working with the dev team.

So what, with specific example file names (a directory listing is ideal) is ‘broken’ ?

My apologies…i actually spoke too soon

I have one show that is built using exported nfc…it is working fine still after the update. I would have to test a new show to make sure that it pulls correctly with a new show.

Again sorry for being too hasty.

EDIT: It gets stranger…in Plex.tv/web it shows up fine…all of the episode thumbnails and season posters come though. On localhost:32400 only the show poster comes through…tested it multiple times on different browsers

Are you manually putting the art in from Plex? Cause what we are referring to is Plex not scanning Season Poster art via XBMC TV Shows Metadata Agent like it use too.

Anything above Plex-Media-Server-1.2.7.2987 broke this… 1.2.7 still works fine.

Plex now puts the TV Show Art as the Art for all Seasons. Where 1.2.7 puts Season art for Seasons.

edit: Err maybe it does work… Need more people to comment.

Local - localhost:32400

Plex.tv/web

Episode thumbnails

The XMBC linkage is what we’re working on (in this thread) I thought. I had asked some post back about what to formally approach engineering with.

Is that what you want? XBMC agent contributing to the Plex agents automatically so Plex agents do not need modification? My specific words were to relax the ‘accepts_from’ clause requirement.

The guy below my post said it wasn’t working. So I was going by that. I am not a pass owner yet. He is now saying it might work. Lets let more people post comments… Maybe it is working. I cannot test it yet so I am really no help :frowning:

Let me know if you need anymore info @ChuckPA

@mcrommert

Sorry for being thick headed. I see it. I will also get the right person here.

Getting more help.

Try something for me:

I’ve got the dev in chat.

when going to plex.tv/web, it’s https.
when going to localhost, it may or may not be https.

Try both cases: http and https. be sure to handle browser cache

Yes the plex.tv/web is https…and that works

localhost is http - tried as https got it to load but with errors (browser doesn’t trust as secure probably due to no cert) still doesn’t show the season posters or the episode thumbnails

Edit: will include even though probably not needed

yeah… that’s what I’m seeing here… I was just looking at plex.direct

I am going to ask the main dev team about ‘what happens if’. Should be interesting

Oh, just for curiosity, how are your network connections set? disable, prefer, require?

I went through each one; same behavior

Also in the world of bad news…Hama by way of ASS (Absolute Series Scanner) was also impacted by this glitch…in 1.2.7 all of my seasons posters are fine (and episode thumbnails) with new update this is how two different shows look. And one is over localhost:32400 and one is over plex.tv/web…so the update didn’t help at least this issue at all
