I am having trouble getting anything to show up when using this plugin. I used TinyMediaManager to generate the .nfos for each episode of a show. I have the proper Plex naming conventions and folder structure. No posters show up, every season is showing as it’s own separate listing of the tv show, instead of each season being listen within the main folder, and the episodes all just show up titled “episode 1, 2, etc”. I am not sure I could mess up following the exact tutorial the creator of this plugin gave.
@Kings-Plex
Did you install using the instructions from the first post of this thread? Or did you use the instructions from the github page, where you downloaded them? The agents are 5 years old and have gone through a lot of changes to get where they are now. The first post of this thread is no longer quite correct. Only the original creator is able to change it, but has stopped participating in the development of the agents.
If the agents show up in plex settings, they are probably installed correctly. If you have selected them in the third (advanced) step, when creating a library and they still don’t work for you, please enable debug logging and zip up all the log files from plex’ log folder. Upload them to some sharing service and drop me a link (via PM if you prefer) so I can have a look, what is going wrong.
@SlrG
Thanks so much for the response! I’ve been working on a handful of shows that have the multiepisode format and TVDB is very stubborn with their format. For the longest time I’ve just dealt with the metadata being incorrect and I had a friend of mine suggest the nfo option because he uses Kodi. I am willing to use Kodi if need be, but I really do love the simplicity behind Plex and my whole family is already very used to it (4+ years using it) so it’d be hard to introduce something new to them.
I actually followed the small tutorial in the Github page, which is pretty basic. Plugins aren’t difficult to install, of course! I have since found out about this thread and installed the plugin thru WebTools since it had the updating option. I have not messed with any settings within the plugin nor Plex.
Anyway, I don’t mind keeping the conversation here so that others can figure it out if they have the same issue(s). That is, if you don’t mind. I’m not sure if it will get too crowded in the thread.

I’ve placed the log zip folder in there along with my two screenshots. One is a screen of how the show displays using Local Media Assets, and one is how it shows up in it’s own library with the info plugin.
@Kings-Plex:
Sadly I have to ask you to recheck your installation of the agents completely and that you choose the agent when creating the library, also that you enabled debug logging in the agents settings.
There should be com.plexapp.agents.xbmcnfo.log and com.plexapp.agents.xbmcnfotv.log files in your log folder, but there are none in your zip.
I see what happened. I didn’t realize the debug logging needed to be checked from within the plugins themselves. I have rectified that and added the new log zip to that Google Drive link.
Thank you
Hey all,
I’m have a bit of an issue where Plex reads the title from the actual video file’s tag instead of the nfo file. Results in movie titles like these…
My agent order is…
- Local Media Assets (Movies)
- XBMCnfoMoviesImporter
- OpenSubtitiles.org (Disabled)
have you tried to “edit” the video tag for the file with mkvtoolnix ---- edit headers … it’s just a 30 sec job
I never had an issue with it in the past. So something has to be wrong or configured incorrectly. And it’s not just 1 or 2 videos. It’s quite a lot. Would rather fix the problem than have to remember to edit the tag for every movie I download from now on.
of course…it’s easy not Plex or the plugin not read the tag!.
have you add a lot of new movies (with the wrong title from tag?) scrapped with some new program?
@Kings-Plex
Sadly there is nothing usable in your logs. Real logs should be very large having a lot of info for each episode, poster, whatever in them. As a last try, please copy one or two of the shows you have problems with to a temporary folder and remove the episode files, but leave all the the other things in (nfo files, posters, artwork, …) then zip this up and drop me link. I can use this to try scanning and my system and see if it creates any problems.
@rassmatic
Like orbtwin-plex told you, the agent is not reading info from tags within movies or episodes media files. Also it can’t prevent plex from doing this. I would try with disabled local media assets and see what happens. If the wrong titles are gone, the “error” is more on the plex side. You should look for an option to disable usage of tags from media files. If this is not possible, you will have to try to fix the wrong titles in the tags.
@SlrG
I’m not sure why even the logs aren’t showing anything. I have not only tried to add the metadata nfo’s in my normal tv directory but I have tried to test it by creating a brand new library just for that show to see if it works.
Anyway, I added a zip of the metadata I’m using. It’s in the same Google Drive link.
@Kings-Plex
Your sample scans basically fine for me. Only problem I see is, that you have multiple tvshow.nfo files in the season folders. This is not as it should be. It should be a single tvshow.nfo in the the tvshows folder. Please try to move it and scan again with debug logging enabled. Maybe this time we will get a clue what is going wrong.
@SlrG
That did the trick finally! It seemed to have been confusing each “tvshow.nfo” as a new entry within the folder and I’m guessing it was stopping it up to where it wasn’t even reading the metadata further.
There are still a handful of episodes that are just coming up as “Episode 2, 3, etc”, though. If I manually edit them from within Plex, will that cause any problems or should I continue to try and figure out the issue behind those?
@Kings-Plex
I don’t really know, if this would have negative effects to edit those episodes on the plex side. Looking into your episode nfo files, there are errors. In Rocket Power - S01E02 - Ice Queens+Secret Spot.nfo the episode number is 3 and in Rocket Power - S01E03 - Otto 3000+Night Prowlers.nfo the episode number is 2, which should be the other way round. Changing it, the episodes are correctly named on my system. Episode Rocket Power - S03E09 - Sim Sammy+Otto Hangs 11.nfo seems to have the the wrong name in the nfo file (Episode #3.9).
Nice thread.
I was looking for something like this, i have recently moved out from Kodi to Plex. However Kodi used so show accurate movie count in my library… now with plex i am about 700 movies less.
I have followed the instruction on the first page, first thread. And am stuck after adding the two .bundle files to the plugin folder.
The next step is to use “Plex Media Manager”, is no more available. But how do i add this to the web interface…?? How do i add the nfo to XBMC .nfo importer" as the Primary metadata agent through web interface?
Am i missing something. I understand that this thread/post is about 5 years old, and a lot of changes must have gone in… and this entire thread is huge, where should i start reading to find the latest updates/steps to integrate this?
Please help… I am lost.

TV Shows agent: https://github.com/gboudreau/XBMCnfoTVImporter.bundle
Find your plex Plug-ins folder. This will depend on your os. Google to find the
correct one for your system.
The instructions for ubuntu are described on the github pages. Other linux distros
will require the same steps. On windows you don’t need step 4 and 5. Step 6
is restarting plex.
Check the plex settings if the agents show up. If they don’t you probably have
the wrong Plug-ins folder or forgot to restart plex.
Generate a new library and don’t forget to choose the correct agent in the
3rd (advanced) step.
That should get you going.

@SlrG, thanks for your replies bro.
My Plex Server is on the Windows machine, I have added both the files to the said Plugin’s folder. The option to find and choose the plugin folders is integrated with the Plex Server in the tray icon. I also performed a shutdown and restart of the plex server.
Please see below…
Where do i see the plex agent showing up? Did it show up? Please see below.
How do i generate a new Library as mentioned in your previous post. I’ve rescanned/updated the libary, but still do not see any new updates of movies in the libary. I guess i am missing a step as seen in the above screenshots?
My apologies for the dumb question, thousands of folks here made this work, looks like i am the only one who;s having trouble here to grasp this whole thing.
@monukoshy : The Agents are not showing on your system. If you rebooted plex, you installed them to the wrong Plug-ins folder. Are you really running as Administrator? Please check the other users, too.
@SlrG thanks for the tip.
I can now correctly see the agents in my Plex Manager.
However there are still issues with about 700 movies not showing up.
Here is what i have done so far..
- Created inidividual export files for the movies in the settings for Kodi
- installed the new agents as mentioned here..
- deleted the current libary in plex.
- created a new library and choose the XBMCnfoMoviesImporter.bundle from the drop down.
- Executed/saved.
Inspite of this there is a dependency of 700+ movies in comparison to Kodi.
Please see the screenshot below.
Here you can see when i choose the folder option it shows the accurate movie count, but when going back to titles, the movies go missing.
Not sure what I am doing wrong.. but my kodi has close to 1060 movies, where as plex shows 630.
see below…
So I am not sure, despite i am asking kodi to extract the xml files seperately, it doesnt seem to extract any xml files. I am checking the movie folders, and dont see any xml files generated.
It seems you have non standard folder names that contain the disc type in parantheses. That might create problems. To know for sure, please enable debug logging in the agents settings and create a new library. Upload the whole logs folder zipped to some sharing service and drop me a link, so I can have a look.
