I’ve just moved over from Kodi but there’s a few things I can’t seem to setup like it was when I was using Kodi.
Let’s say I have 2 libraries: “Standup” and “Movies”. In “Standup” I have a show with Kevin Hart. Selecting Kevin Hart from that show will show me all the references to him inside the same “Standup” library, but how do I get that list of references to also include every single movie he has been in, in the “Movies” library?
Even though all my libraries use the TMDB for metadata, they often have different settings so I can’t just combine everything into one library.
Well short of manually creating thousands of collections, one for every single actor, is there seriously no way I can hack this to work? No way to tie Kevin Hart from “Standup” together with Kevin Hart from “Movies”?
No way to combine the libraries, then visually split them, so that references still work as if they were one? Could I automate the creation of collections for every single actor?
Users have - FOR YEARS - begged, pleaded and raged on Plex about this - and they simply are not interested, or are simply unable to make this happen.
Recently I consolidated 28 various libraries into “1 Each” for Movies/Shows so at least Movies or Shows would access all materials by that ‘Actor’ when clicking their image in one of the libraries, but STILL won’t produce items from the other library, be it Shows or Movies.
Whatever work-around you have to employ to get as close to what you want as you can - is what you’ll have to do.
I cannot believe more people don’t ask for this and suspect most just live with how things are as its pretty clear it will never happen.
What is even worse is that cast avatars ARE 100% shared between libraries but filtering or searching are not. For example, you could have a cast member avatar in a TV show fetched from TVDB then show up in a movie library which uses TMDB. Its a mess !
I ended up having just two libraries, 1) for movies and 1) for tv shows just to workaround the search limitation but then end up refreshing the entire movie library metadata once a week to replace any avatars that the TVDB overwrote.
