Allow Collections to include Movies from multiple libraries

A related movie from another library, say my Documentaries Library could also be included in my Collection that resides in Movies. Currently, all the movies must be in the same library.

Just create a new collection in this library, with the same, exactly identical name.
See what happens.

I don’t think Plex looks across different libraries. When collections first came out you could connect movies and TV shows but now I don’t think you can. I know when it comes to actors it won’t. This seems the most important part of connecting information from library to library is to reference actors from all the media in your different libraries not just one.

It works, but is messy and has undesirable side-effects.

  1. Create a collection named FOO in one library, tag movie ABC with FOO
  2. Create a collection, same name FOO, in a second library, tag movie DEF with FOO

Looking at the collection in the first library, it will have movie ABC listed, and below it, under the heading “Movies in the FOO Collection”, it will also list DEF

Unfortunately, now you will have a collection named “FOO” in both libraries, and there is nothing you can do to hide it from view. If you try to set Advanced Options in FOO to say “Hide Collection”, it hides the collection alright, but then displays the movie DEF as if it was in the library - which it’s not, it’s in the second library. So it’s messy.

The basic problem is Plex treats the tagging of a movie to be synonymous with “Create a Collection, right here, right now!” So I end up with all these extraneous collections in my library when all I wanted was a movie with a bunch of common tags, so I could reference those tags across/in other libraries.

I too wish for Plex to integrate the option to make collections from different libraries.
My current work-around is an extra library with all the folders together.

Please add this feature for the new custom collections!
This would give a lot of modifications for own preferences and liking.

This feature would just give a lot of possibilities which are missing by a lot of people. watchlists, favourites, etc.
This wont work with just a single library support.

Edit: Its working for playlists… so that would be possible too i think. Options could be show collection in:

  1. both collections +/- dashboard
  2. no collection + dashboard

More than just movies across multiple libraries, I’d also like to see a cross format collection. For example, TV shows where movies take place between seasons. It’d be really neat to have a way to create a “watch order” collection of sorts.
