I’m in the process of moving my PMS from an older Ubuntu server to a MacMini (with NAS for storage). I can get the mappings down for the libraries but are there any real gotchas? If I have to I can recreate user lists and collections but if I can get those to come over too that would be ideal. I was reading that OS mis-match migrations weren’t supported and am curious if they’re still not supported?
I’ve once migrated my initial server in the other direction. The only real pain point is that both platforms use different formats for the server configuration file… on Linux the config is stored in an XML file while the MacOS Server is using a plist.
It’s technically possible to transfer the various properties and machine identifiers, but that’ll require some tinkering. It might be easier to let Plex consider the new setup to be a new server.
That being said… this should only mean you’ll need to re-establish what libraries you’re sharing with friends/managed users. All other critical information should be in Plex‘s database and can be transferred as you copy the entirety of files.
