Migrating PMS on Mac to Synology: Making sure the DB is in the right place

Server Version#: latest
Player Version#: latest

Greetings,

I’m upgrading my PMS to run on a Synology with plenty of drive space. I want to keep my current library intact. Is there a way to migrate my cleanly migrate my DB to Synology? Current plan is to copy everything from ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/ to $PLEX_HOME/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/ on the new Synology and cross my fingers.

Will that work?

Good info. Thanks!

What under Application Support/Plex Media Server can I safely delete? I’d like to get as small as possible, while keeping the important data (like collections, playlists, what’s been played, users).

If I may augment Trumpy’s post here,

  1. Make a ZIP of the “Plex Media Server” folder under your ~/Library/Application Support folder
  2. Copy that ZIP to the Synology
  3. Make certain PMS is stopped on the DiskStation
  4. Rename the “Plex Media Server” folder to “Plex Media Server-unused
  5. UNZIP the ZIP file so your Plex Media Server folder takes its place
  6. Right click Plex Media Server -> Properties
  7. Change the ownership to plex in group users
  8. Make certain to “Apply to this folder, subfolders and files” (checkbox in the lower left corner)

Trumpy has more info in his FAQ about that if needed
