Are those by chance mp4/mv4/mov files with embedded metadata? I’m specifically asking because IIRC Plex will use the album
tag from such files and use it as its own collections tag.
They’re mp4 files. The automatic collections are usually marketing bundles, like “90s Comedies”.
I always assumed the Plex Movie agent was pulling them in after matching. Is there a way to edit the ‘album’ tags?
I use TinyMediaManager, but don’t see it as a field. I’m not sure if it edits mp4 metadata anyway, I mainly use it just to find the posters and fanart and organize the folders/filenames with the tvdb ID.
Plex gets its automatic collection information from The Movie Database. While there’s the occasional rogue collection, they’re usually rather strict as for what qualifies as a collection – “90s Comedies” does not
If you don’t use embedded metadata you can simply configure Plex to ignore those embedded tags by disabling ⋮
> Manage Library
> Edit...
→ Advanced
> Prefer local metadata
.
I’m not particularly familiar with TMM, so I cannot guide you as for where to find/remove that tag (in case you want to keep using embedded metadata).
Looks like Mp3tag will work for editing the ‘Album’ as the embedded collections. Do you happen to know other fields that Plex looks to in particular?
Found I can add multiple ‘covers’, and set the type in Mp3tag; curious if I can embed both the poster (set as “Front Cover”) and the fanart, but not sure which type to set it as (eg Back Cover, Other, etc). Only recognizes one cover art file as poster only
Are there metadata fields that Plex will order TV episodes by? Like does it look to Disc Number for Seasons and Track Numbers for Episodes?
Edit: ‘Back Cover’ seems to work for embedding the fanart. scratch that, it only recognizes one cover art file as poster only
I’m not aware of a conclusive mapping.
Personally not a fan of embedding too much into the few mp4s I’ve got and Plex doesn’t read embedded metadata from mkv.
