Missing Extras

I have uploaded some TV series I ripped off Blu-Rays to my Plex server. The main episodes show up just fine, arranged by season, and with additional metadata, bells and whistles. However, some additional files which are “extras” do not show up at all. Now, these files are encoded with the exact same parameters as the ones that do show up. It’s as if because they do not fit in the “standard” episode list, they are just ignored. Anyone else see this, or know how to get around it?

I suggest you check the TVDB or whatever database your Plex server uses for TV info. “Extras” should generally follow the naming scheme for “Specials”, I believe?

Usually extras or specials are named Season 00. So, for example the first extra might be S00E01. Is this what you are looking for?

You kinda lost me. What do you mean by naming scheme? Do I have to name the Extras files and/or directories that contain them with a specific pattern?

I have each season in its own folder, and then the extras in a separate folder. If I browse by folder in the Plex player, I can see the episodes in the Seasons directories, but nothin in the Extras directory.

I found the relevant info (https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220707-naming-tv-show-specials/), and named the folder “Season 00” (also tried “Specials”), but no dice. The folder still shows as empty in the Plex browser.

I often wish Plex wasn’t so “smart”. That it would just give me a list of files if that is what I want.

Do you mind telling me what show and maybe I can help? Have you checked how it shows up on TVDB?

I had “Personal Media Shows” selected as an attempt to dumb things down. I don’t even know what that means, except that it did not work. The additional episodes are for Farscape. in TVDB they show as “Season 5”. I tried Naming the folder containing both files to “Season 05” to no effect. https://www.thetvdb.com/series/farscape/seasons/5

Ok, so question: Did you set it up as a TV Show library? In the agents section there is a “Personal Media Shows” agent, as you mentioned, but you should be able to select services from all of the agents. I would at least make sure that TVDB agent is enabled (check box marked).

I would set it up under a TV Show library and then label the episodes according to the Plex recommended naming scheme and make sure that they match the TVDB listing. If your episodes match the TVDB and Plex then they should show up…

I believe they should be labeled as “Farscape - S05E01.ext” and “Farscape - S05E02.ext” where ext is the file extension.

Maybe you need to try the Plex dance if those settings don’t fix the issue.
