I need help. Somehow, several hundred of my MP4 movie files have had their video metadata deleted. These files will now not play at all. They wont play on plex, windows media player, even VLC media player. I happened to have a backup of a single movie I had copied from my folders to a flash drive and the files are both the exact same number of bytes. No difference at all except one has the video metadata in details and the other does not.
Any idea how this data could have been deleted from hundreds of files and even more important, is there any way to restore this metadata or have it rebuilt? When I go to “Get Info” for a movie, plex shows the metadata there. However, the files themselves don’t have that data anymore and wont play. Any ideas? I spent 2 hours now trying various conversion programs from VLC to PavTube to Movavi video editor… None of these programs will even successfully load and play any of the video files.
