I have 2 servers running one on the previous release (Version 1.5.3.3580 ) since upgrading I cannot play some mkv file which played fine before upgrading and still play fine on the previous release. Any ideas why this would be?
found this in the logs but direct play is enabled in server settings (this is one of the files having the issue)

same issue playing to any device (appleTv, chrome browser, roku) the server thinks its being played according to the status page on the server it shows as buffering. On the device attempting to play the waiting/buffering icon just spins not giving any error or time out.
The MDE (media decision engine) thinks the file can’t be direct played and has decided to use 2000kbps which is really low.
Give us some additional information
what client is this?
are you playing it from an internet device or from a device on your local network and if so is it using WIFI?
Under SETTINGS/SERVER/NETWORK what do you have set for “Internet upload speed” and also what is selected for “Limit remote stream bitrate”? You may need to click the button SHOW ADVANCED.
On the client device what do you have set for “Local Quality”, “Remote Quality” & “Online Quality”?
On the client do you have for “Direct Play”, “Direct Stream”, “Allow Direct Play of AC3 Audio”, “Prefer AAC Audio”, “Burn Subtitles”? You may not have every option just listed.
On your server what upload speed do you get from speedtest.net?
That will help us figure out why the MDE is doing what it’s doing.
Hi, yes there is a 2000kbps limit for remote users as we have limited bandwidth (10mbps upload for 5 remote users). The same issue happens when trying to play on the same LAN as the server so its not that. Anyway I rolled back to the previous release 1.5.3.3580 and everything works perfectly with the exact same settings so i’m gonna go with plex engineers broke it and wait for the next release. I do have the logs zip file from the server if anyone from plex wants to view it.
OK getting somewhere. I know this might be redundant but if you wouldn’t mind please expand on what DOES WORK properly in 1.5.3.3580 that doesn’t in 1.5.4.x.
There are a bunch of mkv files that wont play on 1.5.4.x but will play on 1.5.3.3580 (not all mkv files are effected) these are just the typical torrented tv show via sonarr. I did not get any error message just the buffering icon spins, when I checked the server staus it shows the tv show in buffering status this never seems to time out either. (same for all my devices which I tested on appletv 4, roku stick, chrome browser and edge.
So I assume it plays ok on version 1.5.3 but fails on 1.5.4?
Could you upgrade back to 1.5.4 and retry that same file again?
Note the time you started playing the file so it can be found in the logs easier.
This time if it fails wait 30 seconds then go to SETTINGS/SERVER/HELP and download the log zip file and post it here or PM it to me. I’ll then take a look and see what I can find.
Also could you click on the (three dots) to get the “Get Info” link on the movie/show Then click the view XML link at the bottom. Cut and paste that info into a text file for me as well.
