Can you verify your TV’s DLNA client is capable to play the MKV / subtitles?
What kind of subtitles are those (e.g. SRT vs. image based subtitles from DVD/Blu-Rays)?
There’s no transcoding involved when it comes to DLNA… so you can only play media that’s supported by the TV as-is.
Hi Tom,
thanks for picking up.
Router DLNA server: These kind of files (Soft Subtitles) play through, I can switch audio language, but i cannot use subtitles, cannot pause play cannot fast forward/backward.
Plex Media Server: These kind of files (Soft Subtitles) don’t play at all.
There are still issues playing with router’s DLNA, but when Plex Media Server won’t play at all, there must be something wrong.
The files play without any issues with VLC, even changing subtitles works.
Do you have any ideas what could be done to make them work with Plex Media Server on a TV with DLNA?
The files are blu-ray backups in its original state (makemkv).
Thanks to your question I checked MediaInfo and subtitles are picture based. Is there a setting Plex Media Server will be capable of showing them?
My subtitles settings are:
Choose Audio and Subtitletracks automatically
Preferred audio language: Deutsch (German)
Subtitle mode: Always active
Preferred subtitle language: Deutsch (German)
The server is presenting the subtitles to the DLNA client on your TV as they are. There’s no modifications when it comes to DLNA.
If the file doesn’t play as-is, there’s nothing you can do on the Plex side (while streaming through DLNA)
